Character Name: Kiyotaka Ishimaru
Blurb: A passionate and loyal young man who leads his school's disciplinary and comes off just a bit too strongly at times.

AU Info: The grandson of a disgraced councilmember, Ishimaru is a (Far From Ordinary) Master of Training that has resolved to redeem his family name through hard work and determination: namely, becoming a councilmember himself eventually. His father is a member of the Swords of the Savior and is part of the reason why Ishimaru is so fixated on order and public morals. Currently a top student at Brentwood Academy (and yes, the head of the disciplinary committee), his singular dedication to studying does not come without its doubts. Without a single human friend to his name and with no idea how to converse with others his age, Ishimaru regularly experiences an intense desire to belong and wonders if he really is being too serious, though he strives to not let others' criticism dissuade him from his goals. Currently struggling to deal with an all newly-evolved team of Blaziken, Lucario, and Vigoroth in the same dorm room.

Pre-Existing CR: Any character older than Ishimaru, particularly adults, will be likely to at least know a small amount about Ishimaru's grandfather, Toranosuke. Tidbits of information, from the obvious to well-kept secrets, include the scandal that forced him to step down, the subsequent scandal involving his son being a member of the Swords, and the fact that Toranosuke was a Staraptor shifter with little to no schooling to his name. Feel free to have your character know next to none or all of this information, depending on their connections and interest in Union's political sphere.
Looking for: Friends, both Pokemon and their trainers! The milestone of his first will likely be a large one. Also definitely not opposed to anything negative, given that this kid can be unintentionally insensitive given the right circumstances.
Potential Connections: Obviously, a student of Brentwood and thus spending most of his time around there, but he does enjoy going on walks around Union. Basically any place that isn't shady is fair game!

Other Info: Ishimaru's family is in a lot of debt from Toranosuke's fall. Don't be surprised if he's a little reluctant to splurge on food, clothing or other amenities. Speaking of that, you'll never find him outside his Brentwood uniform: he has ten copies of it that he wears rain or shine every single day of the year.

So, I've already tagged you with Hanayo here, but I see several other avenues to CR with a few of my other girls:

-Chie is a current member of the Swords of the Savior, so she's probably heard of his father before. Alternatively, maybe his father has mentioned an energetic new recruit that just joined about a year ago that's around Ishimaru's age (she's 18, but close enough, probably)

-Lenna is the last remaining member of the Tycoon noble family, and is probably aware of the Ishimaru name at the very least. She and her family in general is big into charity, and there was probably a quiet offer of help at some point following the scandal.

-Ishimaru doesn't get the chance to sit down and chat with his father very often, but such an upstanding young recruit would certainly come up in conversation! How much Chie knows about his dad will depend on both of their circumstances, but some things that are pretty basic: he's the Swords equivalent of a police inspector, about 40 years old, and he looks like this. Also he has an undying love of trenchcoats. Shhh, keep it on the down low.

-He himself wouldn't be personally aware of the Tycoon name aside from a general idea of who they are, since the scandal happened when he was very young. That offer itself would likely have been turned down for a few reasons, but their generosity would be held in high regard by Ishimaru's parents. He's a little wary about nobles in general, being born into prosperity and knowing nothing of hard work, but Lenna's charity work definitely absolves her from that.

-Chie's still pretty new on the whole and hasn't gotten promoted yet, so presumably all she knows about Ishimaru's dad is his name and that he's one of the big shots. His job sounds pretty similar to what our AU Commissioner Gordon does, and Chie knows him, so she probably knows him as one of Gordon's colleagues or at least a similarly-ranked person.

-Lenna would have been young around that time too, so it was most likely her father Alexander Tycoon who made the offer. He's a Councilman as well (and retired Ranger), and has recently gone missing from Union, presumed dead by almost everyone but Lenna at this point.

A top student dead-set on studying and not very good about making friends? Hmm~ How about a previous top student who was dead-set on studying and who was not very good about making friends?

Ami is a girl genius herself who dedicated herself to knowledge as that is her first love. She's currently a medic at the age of 17 so he may know her?

Aaah yes! Ami is one of my favorite characters and it'd be awesome to get CR with her. It would be really good for Ishimaru to get to know someone else like him and realize that he doesn't have to go through his struggle alone. He unfortunately doesn't have many connections to the medical field but he does know Lucas and has a Blaziken that likes to lead him on wild goose chases around town. Perhaps a stop to the clinic would be warranted? That same Blaziken is also worried about Ishimaru missing out on the better things in life by studying too much, so he could mesh well with her Noctowl - or his Lucario, who believes in him wholeheartedly but desperately needs someone to talk to who ISN'T jumping over buildings or tearing up their room.

Side note - the word "genius" is a major berserk button for Ishimaru, but feel free to use it as often or infrequently as you like!

Sounds good to me! We could do a log meet up, if you want. Ami is super friendly to pokemon so she's very likely to get along with the Blaziken or any of Ishimaru's pokemon, really. I should mention that her second evolution affected her more than what the actual manga does. Her skin has a blue tint and her body temperature is actually lower and she produces frost on items. It's why she has her cyndaquil with her everywhere.

Ishimaru's a little nervous around the visibly Enlightened being a self-proclaimed ordinary man, but he'd hardly mind the company of someone like Ami. He really enjoys being with his Pokemon and meeting others, but he just hasn't had the opportunity to really show it without having something go amiss. Perhaps they could seize the opportunity to lighten him up a little! Cuddle puddles.

It's not a problem! It relates to the whole situation with Ishimaru's grandfather Toranosuke above - in canon, he rose up through the political ranks to became the Prime Minister of Japan without any education past high school, without any formal sponsors, and with unprecedented speed to boot. But it was his naïveté that led him to cause the disastrous scandal that ruined his family name, leading Ishimaru to believe that Toranosuke did what he did relying on natural talent, or "genius", rather than any form of hard work. His relationship to his grandfather is complicated, but Ishimaru resents the lazy and unmotivated in large part because of him.

To Ishimaru, genius is a double-edged sword, with any great gains made through genius being fragile at best. When he becomes Prime Minister/Councilmember, he's pledged to create a society where hard workers are justly rewarded. It's also heavily implied that Ishimaru himself has been casually called a genius on more than one occasion due to his high academic standing, and he reacts to the term with substantial anger and apprehension.

Ah, no I understand! No worries. Ami is quite different than his expectation. Actually, I do have an idea on how they meet if you want?

Maybe Ishimaru's professor asks Ami to come speak to his class as sort of a "what the medic track can do for you" sort of thing and we can go from there?

That works out quite nicely! He takes very precise notes, so he could approach her after class and ask her if he missed any key points in her lecture and catch her attention that way.

Whoops, so I didn't realize that Ishimaru was a noble and had connections to the council. That would mean that he and Lux likely know each other (I believe he's a year or so younger than her). I feel like it might even be interesting to have their grandfathers either have been very good friends, or to have butt heads, since both were involved heavily with the Swords.

It might be interesting too to say that she attended the same academy, although she would have graduated early because lol genius child.

I feel really silly now for not doing my research before tagging his intro, I'm really sorry about that! I'm not sure if you wanted to retcon things or not.

Well, if he is a noble it's just by a thread, since his family has been relegated to the lower-middle class due to debt and doesn't hold nearly the social and political influence they used to. A rivalry between their grandfathers might be interesting, though, since Ishimaru feels very strongly about him despite not knowing everything about the man. Knowing her vaguely from school is also viable. He might be a little apprehensive around her at first, since he doesn't know if she's a hard worker or not.

No need to feel silly! I'd be fine with whichever direction you want to take things in, but don't feel pressured to do a retcon if you don't want to.
