TEST DRIVE MEME: JUNE + JULY EDITION

Welcome to bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are encouraged to use either first person or third person for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 Refuge has opened its gates to the people of Union, Caldera and Citadel, in the most hospitable way they feel possible: A party. Some have come to explore the expansive underground city, but mostly, word has spread about how Refuge's brews are on point. They don't seem to discriminate on age, either.

#2 The city of Caldera is starting a major production project and they need workers. The forges are constantly going day and night and the pay's good, but it's hot, hard work that'll leave you tired and achy to say the least.

#3 The Summer Solstice festival has begun in Citadel. The tree is in full bloom, with flowers of every color dot its branches. This week-long celebration brings together the various tribes that call Citadel its home through music, dancing and, of course, fighting. There is a tournament set to begin, boasting some of the strongest Valkyries that Citadel has ever known among the combatants.

#4 The heat has really gotten to the people of Union, and as a result many have moved south for a weekend get-away in the Archipelago and the larger Island. The sand is warm and the water is too, but doesn't the beach seem a bit crowded for a once seemingly deserted area?

[ drawing attention back to their surroundings gets an excited gasp from her, and a happy noise from her Ralts companion as Elizabeth's feelings shed any complexity and just shift to pure joy. a delighted undercurrent of he didn't say no, he didn't say no that gets caught up in all the rest. ]

I know! Isn't it pretty? Everything here is so alive. And - dancing! [ she laughs. ] I never imagined I would actually see a place like this!

You been dancing with 'em?

[ Now that they don't have to be running anywhere, he finds he doesn't mind the thought. ]

Of course!

[ even if it hadn't been something she had been looking forward to, she doesn't think she could have resisted being swept up in all the energy of this city. ]

Should I even ask if you have?

Yeah uh, don't bother.

[ He shakes his head, all in (wry) good humor. ]

What about your new friend there?

[ - That you're holding on to like a toy. The remark is accompanied by a gesture towards the Ralts. ]

Oh! I'm sorry, this is Fleur. [ she adjusts her hold so that Fleur is sitting more comfortably in Elizabeth's arms, instead of being clutched to her chest. ] We met in Union city. I think she must have... sensed my emotions, and come to see what all the fuss was about.

[ she shrugs, and her smile there is a little helpless. it turns out that reading about Pokémon doesn't really prepare you for anything outside a tower, especially when Union adds the whole bonding process into the mix. ]

[ He doesn't expect Fleur to like him much, if she can sense what people feel. He's not even used to the idea of treating Pokémon as anything other than weapons or assets, but he looks the ralts over curiously. ]

So it does work without the Pokéballs.

Mm. I haven't figured out how exactly it works yet, but it's part of Union's technology? They have these "Warp Bands", and they... they make it so that humans and Pokémon can understand each other. It's not a capture, it's a partnership.

[ it would have been hard to believe, if she hadn't already seen how the people of Union interacted with their Pokémon. from there, she had simply thought of course. of course she would never have heard about such a method while she was in Gigas. she wonders if they would even take the opportunity, if it were available to them, or if they would still choose subjugation. ]

Maybe that says the most about the kind of place Union is.

They're gonna watch us bear up the dance floor

[Teddie watches as Ginko walks around and starts giving him a massage.] Aaah, now that's the spot. [He started to feel more relaxed, and ended up sitting down, looking quite content.]

[bearlydressed]

[Her question makes him frown and hang his head dejectedly.] Almost nothing at all. I know I'm a bear and that I'm from the canyon, but that's it.

[bearlydressed]

I think I might be. [He pulls his paws away from his mouth and-

Okay that is really gross. He's got snot all over, and what doesn't stick to his fur runs down onto the sand.]

I dunno how! Maybe it's the heat? [The sun can be rather unforgiving to ice types.]

[bearlydressed]

[Well he certainly thinks Elizabeth is rather kind since she's so willing to help the poor Pineco back into the tree, but there was one little fact that Teddie couldn't quite ignore.] It can explode!?

[He starts flailing his arms, still loud as ever.] If it can explode then it's probably best to stay beary far away from it! [Who knows what sort of damage it could cause!]

Co. [The Pineco eyes Elizabeth with uncertainty. No funny business!]

Well that's okay. You'll just have to learn as you go.

[Yukiko does not at all seem worried, if anything, she sounds cheerful]

Peter agrees, right?

[Peter groans. Boss...it's Snor-Lord, not Peter. But yeah, he's gotcha.]

It does.

[ He has no idea how to live in a place like that. If it's even as ideal as she's making it sound - all that means is that there shouldn't be room for him, that he shouldn't be welcome there. ]

4. [Family vacations with her family weren't always the quickest or the most orderly of affairs, but they were enjoyable either way. Even when her parents made Mari babysit her five year old little brother Joseph while they went to goof off somewhere; the five year old was easy enough to please.

Unfortunately, Joseph had also developed a bit of a newfound biting habit, of just about anything, from toys to animals to... People. And whoever was right next to them at an ice-cream stand where Mari had taken him for some frozen treat was about to be treated to Joseph ogling their nearest exposed body part before he simply leaned forward and bit down.

Unfortunately, Mari only noticed too late.]

Joseph no!

[After she pulls the little hellion away, he began muttering something about it 'looking so yummy..."]

No! You're getting an ice-cream already, don't go around biting people!

[She then turned to the bitten person]

I'm so sorry, are you ok?

[ She only wanted a pechaberry cone.

Just a simple ice cream cone.

What she got was a world of pain, as well as a dropped cone. Whoops. ]

M... my ice cream...

[ The bite marks were still fresh on her arm. ]

[In her rush to attend to Joseph's poor victim, she ended up giving the kid the ice creams she got for herself and him, with Joseph wasting not time starting to devour them both.]

Again, I'm so sorry. I'll buy you a new one. Are you hurt?

[ Still a bit wibbly, Sanae shook her head. ]

It's okay, I don't want you to have to do that.

[ She didn't expect to get bitten. It still kind of hurt. What was he, some kind of Zubat shifter or something? Yikes. ]

Sick! [He moves away from the bear, looking grossed out by the snot all over his paws.]

Then why are you out here if being in the heat makes you sick...

[ Still sitting on the ground, Nanako began to look up. ]

What was that.

A giant blue Teddiursa that talks?! With eyes as big as dinner plates, the young girl stares up at him, not sure what to think. Should she be afraid? Enchanted? She looks conflicted.

Although it would seem that she wouldn't get much of an opportunity to ask what he was. Teddie might hear something behind him, like the sound of metal on metal, and a low, raspy hiss. Something looms over him, unhappy with this whole situation. ]

Hanzo?

[ You knocked down his human.

That is a mistake you will not make again. ]

If you're sure... It's no trouble really, and the least I could do.

[As far as anyone knew, Joseph was just a five year old going through his bitey phase, but Mari wouldn't be at all surprised if he turned out to be that. She looked at him dejectedly.]

I should have watched him better.

[Learn as he goes, huh? He perks up, a thought occurring that must be shared.]

Well, I did just learn that I'm a Cubchoo thanks to you! [He gives Yukiko a bright smile.] Maybe if I stick around, I'll learn a lot pretty quickly! [He's just arrived after all, and discovering that he's a Cubchoo was already a big leap forward.]

Bearcause it's no better in Union! [He tries to shake some of the snot off his paws.] I'd melt into the cracks if I stayed there for too long!

Maybe so. If nothing else, you'll have people around to help you out.

[She flashes a thumbs up beside Snor-Lord.]

And Peter already likes you.

[Snor...Lord...man, c'mon!]

Helloooooo, it's summer time, it's going to be hot everywhere. Why don't you migrate north or something?

[He knows the answer to that, but he'll still complain.]

[Well, she didn't look injured, but the way she stared at him was odd. Has she not seen a bear before?

Teddie snapped out of his thoughts at the sound of metal and the hiss. He slowly turned, fear riddling his face, but it quickly turned into pure terror as he saw what hovered over him.

Almost immediately, Teddie would scream in such a manner that it matched the look on his face. Without a second thought, he'd start moving the heck away from the not-so-friendly shiny bits of the Scyther.] GRIZZLY!
