TEST DRIVE MEME: FEBRUARY + MARCH EDITION

Welcome to bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are welcome to use either prose or brackets for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you. While not required, we also encourage you to take a look at the most recent AU Planning post.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 After the events in Union, the settlement of Refuge has decided to make the Shattering a more public affair. People who were impacted by the tragedies that befell the city, or those who wish to pay respects to a lost family member are encouraged to either send a Litwick off into the caves, or go off to find one. Who knows, you may find something out about yourself--or about the others around you.

#2 The Medical Center in Union is in need of volunteers, and has sent out a call. But it's not because of what you might think. The weather has been surprisingly warm this time of year, and because of it, a number of Pokémon have decided to, um, fix the population discrepancy that the Elite Four's attack has caused. Baby 'mon have overrun the Breeding Center, and many have found their way at the Medical Center for overflow. There are going to be a lot of diapers that need changing...

#3 With the warm weather hinting at a full return, flocks of Pokémon have begun their northern migration back into the Verdant Forest and beyond. Unfortunately, a few of the wild Flying-type breeds are less than respectful of old monuments, and the Lake and Forest Shrine have received a few unwanted guests making a mess. Shooing them off only seems to anger them, and the Shrines are filthy as a result of their visit. Ugh, will these rude Pokémon ever leave?!

#4 After the attack from the Elite Four, help has been filtering in from all parts of the known world. As a result, a number of temporary food carts have opened up in the business district of Union. Workers have to eat, right? This is a perfect time to expand your palette, but be warned, some of the delicacies can be a bit... eclectic, we'll say. Eat at your own risk.

[ Attacked by staticky fluff, no less!! Gold knocks into Cyan at full speed, which may tip them both over, depending how good her balance is.

He is busy trying to figure out how to untangle himself and apologize at the same time - lots of "jolt" ing, both aloud and literally (sorry), when more footsteps - and an actual lantern - approach. ] Sorry! Did he trip?

[Oh no!! Her hair starts to poof as a result. And yeah, no. Her balance is awful. She goes crashing to the ground with another small shriek.]

[She's trying to pull away to see what- oh it was just another pokemon...? She starts apologizing, too up until she sees the light.]

[!! A light!! She was saved! Maybe. She fusses with the end of her skirt, ears back.]

Um- just into me, I think. Sorry.

You're not injured, are you?

[ The lantern bobs closer - it's being held by a person. A kneeling person.

An impossibly handsome kneeling person whose concerned eyes are now sweeping the length of Cyan's body, checking for scrapes and bruises. ] I can't apologize enough. Caves are dangerous even without interference....

[ Gold slinks back, ears down, to go pretend to be a rock or something. He feels awful. ]

[Oh. Don't judge her too badly if she's caught for a moment looking up at you Haruka. Her breath catches for a second. This person was indeed very handsome. She opens her mouth a few times but nothing comes out.]

[Blinking she turns scarlet and shakes her head, trying again.]

N-No, it's okay. I think I'm fine, nya.

[Crap she meowed. Why did she do that the most when she was flustered. slkjfalf]

[ Haruka looks so relieved. And if anything, the meow seems to have amused her. ] I wasn't expecting to run into such a charming Skitty down here.

[ She smiles. Why are there rose petals. There are rose petals now. ]

[nonstopyouth]

[O-Oh. Everything sure is happening. Are those rose petals there or is she just imagining things. She's so red the steam is practically pouring from her fluffy ears.]

I-I...um. G-Got lost.

[She quickly looks back down at her skirt fidgeting with it.]

Nya, [Agh!] the litwick I was following... It wandered off I-I hope it's okay.

[But she is also very lost here.]

[ Cute and considerate. Haruka has met quite the Skitty indeed. ] They're locals. It should be fine.

[ She offers Cyan a hand. ] Can you stand?

[nonstopyouth]

Oh... that's good.

[She looks up and- oh yeah, she was ...definitely still on the ground. She shuffles her legs under her and takes Haruka's hands.]

Thank you.

[And she will smile! before she checks to make sure the guitar on her back is in good shape.]

[ ...Haruka won't ask. Just help Cyan to her feet. ] Were you heading back or further in?

[ Since you're lost. Haruka can't say she's been keeping track of where she is, either, but her instincts tend to be pretty good about this stuff. ]

[nonstopyouth]

Um.

[She looks kind of sheepish, tail moving nervously.]

I think I'd like to head back.

[That was enough excitement for now.]

You wouldn't happen to know which way I should go would you...?

[Because she's not expecting Haruka to just drop everything and show her out that would be really inconvenient.]

[ She hadn't been fully committed to this whole event anyway, so no worries. More time in the caves means more time looking for anything God-related.

Plus. More time with this Skitty could never be bad. She jerks her head back the way they came. ] I'll show you. It's the least I can do...

[ Gold makes a whimper sound, but gets up. He feels a bit better now that he knows they are going to help. ] Jol...

O-oh! That's so nice of you! Thank you, ah....


[oh Right... Names....]

Haruka. This is Changes to Gold.

[ Gold barks at the mention of his name. ]

You?

[nonstopyouth]

Ms. Haruka...

[She wasn't about to admit to almost thinking Haruka was a boy but in the end she was um. Ok. Let's move on. She didn't want to think about how captivated by this person she was there for a second.]

And Changes to Gold [That was quite a name.]

My name is Cyan, it's nice to meet you both. Thank you again for helping me! [She looks down at Gold to smile at him before looking back at Haruka.]

[actsmagnificent]

[ Haruka smiles in return and turns to lead Cyan out of the tunnel. ] This way. Stick close - having to track you down again would be a pain.

[ But she winks to show she's just kitten around.

Gold decides to bring up the rear in the hopes that he is out of the way like this. ]

[nonstopyouth]

[She flushes and shakes her head. With a smile and a bounce in her step she follows.]

I'll keep up, promise!

[actsmagnificent]

[ Haruka grins at that. But she'll walk more slowly than usual, just in case.

Her lantern casts shadows both on the trail up ahead and the two of them. ] Did you come for the Shattering?

[nonstopyouth]

[She nods!]

It sounded interesting, and I hadn't really heard of this place before so I thought it might be fun to learn about.

[And to maybe see if she came from there? It was worth a shot. She's pretty sure that's not the case. Too many dark places underground.]

[actsmagnificent]

You're adventurous. [ Whoops, fork in the tunnel up ahead. Haruka holds out an arm to keep her entourage from blundering forward. ]

[nonstopyouth]

[Eep! She stops. To Haruka's question she looks a little sheepish.]

I don't know if I'd say that...

[She shakes her head.] did you come down here for the same reason?

[actsmagnificent]

More or less. [ She seems distracted, listening to.....nothing, far as Cyan (or Gold, for that matter) will be able to tell. But then her chin sets and she picks a path. ] This way.

[nonstopyouth]

[She watches her. She doesn't say anything until she starts heading down a path. She's quick to follow after her. She's not sure what she was listening to, since her ears didn't pick it up.]

[She's curious but she's not about to pry. Not when she just met Haruka.]

Have you been here often? To Refuge, I mean.

[actsmagnificent]

This is my first time. [ She thinks. Has she been here before? She kept meaning to go, back when they were still chasing myths instead of the Gods themselves, but more pressing matters kept coming up.

And then the real thing made their presences known, which shifted Haruka's priorities. She seems a little bit distracted as she continues trying to pick their route. ]

[nonstopyouth]

Ah, I see.

[She does seem really distracted. Maybe she should let her think and stop interrupting her.]

[She goes quiet, watching their patch and trying to keep an ear out for anything that might sound wrong.]

[actsmagnificent]

[ Drat. Now something's off in their party. Haruka pauses. ] Are you frightened?

[ Should she hand the girl the lantern, or..? Drat. She might have neglected to take personalities into account here. ]

Jolteon! [ Gold, on the other hand, thinks he was the one being addressed. And is adamant that he is not scared, no! Trainer is here! ]
