TEST DRIVE MEME: APRIL + MAY EDITION

Welcome to bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are welcome to use either prose or brackets for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you. While not required, we also encourage you to take a look at the most recent AU Planning post.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 A naughty Castform is following people around and causing rain wherever they walk. Talk about spring showers!

#2 The Flower Grove is well-known for its spring blossoms. Your character has gone to visit, only to discover Gloom have moved in to enjoy the pleasant fragrance! And now the pleasant fragrance...isn't.

#3 This baby Pidgey has fallen out of its nest!!! What do you do? Do you get help? It's squawking and flapping like nobody's business. Might be hard to hang onto without somebody else around to spot you...

#4 Glacier is excited for the Big Spring Thaw! They will tell this to anyone who comes to see them at Citadel, and will even lead expeditions up to the Obsidian Flats to show off the lovely warm weather......while it's still snowing.

#5 Union is still repairing itself after Kyurem's attack. Construction workers are needed at this site. Humans and Pokémon are both welcome, but the supervisor is a Machoke. Communication could get tricky.

Okay. Al? Use Rollout.

[The Golett nods and aims himself at the door before letting a rock lose and chasing it. People rush to get out of the way of a Golett chasing a boulder with a happy smile.]

This way! [To herself:] Please stop when we get outside, please stop when we get outside...

[Rikku chases after her Golett]

[Cloud is only vaguely aware of what it is that the pokemon does but ultimately it doesn't matter. It clears a path and that's what he needs right now.

It takes a nudge from his Honedge to actually get him moving but he follows after Rikku, a hand pressed to his forehead as he tries to make the pounding stop. Light tugs on his hair from his Cubone guide him along until he shoves himself out the main entrance and into the sunlight--into the fresh air.

Cloud stumbles to a stop and bends over, hands resting on his knees as his Cubone stands before him, a worried look about the little creature as he takes a few deep breaths.]

..'m okay..I'm okay..

[At least, he hoped he was. He could still feel something eating at his brain and his anger boiling itself into a rage but he was fighting as hard he could.]

[Rikku and her Murkrow share a Look while her Zorua goes to play with the Golett, still chasing his rock]

Here, this should help.

[She offers him her canteen. Even here, she keeps it handy since you never know when she's going to get thirsty (and broke and unable to get something from one of the shops in Union)]

You look sick.

[To be completely honest, Cloud had momentarily forgotten that there was another person around at all. He jerks upright when she speaks, stepping away from her as his gaze darts from her to the canteen then to her pokemon.

Right. Right the girl that had helped him.

His Cubone takes the initiative and goes to Rikku, reaching up towards the canteen with a determined look on it's face.]

[disasterrific]

[Something is seriously wrong here. She can't leave this guy alone!

Rikku smiles and hands the canteen down to the Cubone while Sneaks digs in Rikku's pockets for that jerky she knows in there and tosses that down to him as well. Rikku glares at her Murkrow, but Cloud probably needs it more.]

That'll help.

[notachocobo]

[The Cubone takes the canteen and jerky, giving a little huff and a nod to the girl before making his way over to Cloud. It's hard to ignore the creature's insistent offerings and, after a moment, the blond takes a knee.]

...Thank you.

[A quick glance at Rikku will hopefully let her know that was meant for her as well and, with shaking hands, he manages to take a drink.

A long drink. Okay so he may have just drained her canteen. He'll repay her somehow.]

[disasterrific]

[She gets him.

And totally expected her canteen to get drained]

Not a problem. Are you sure everything's okay, I think there's a clinic around here somewhere...

[notachocobo]

I don't need a clinic.

[Despite how he's feeling, the words come out forcefully, his hand clenching around the canteen. His Cubone shrinks back a bit while his Honedge continues to hover just behind him and his eyes narrow as he looks at Rikku.]

I'm fine.

[disasterrific]

[Rikku holds her hands up placatingly]

Okay, okay. I was just saying it might be a good idea if you're still feeling sick. Don't want you passing out in the middle of Union.

[notachocobo]

[His eyes track the movements of her hands and once he's sure she's not going to attempt anything, he meets her gaze again.]

I won't.

[If anything, he would have preferred that.

He holds the canteen out once he straightens up again, free hand clenched at his side in an attempt to ground himself.]

Thank you. For what you did in there.

[disasterrific]

[She takes it back]

I couldn't just leave you in there. You looked about ready to burst or pass out, either or.

[notachocobo]

[His jaw clenches a bit.]

Just not a big fan of crowds.

[Both his hands are clenched at his sides now as he glances away from her to the store front.]

Should have known better.

[disasterrific]

Yeah, Union's bad for crowds--oh!

[Rikku pulls something from her back pocket (this girl has a lot of pockets, most of them not even visible to normal people). It's a folded up map]

Here, take this. There's a bunch of smaller shops around and they're all listed on the map! I can just get another one from my boss, and you need one more than me right now.

[Okay seriously. How does one even have that many pockets?

Cloud can't seem to get his body to react the way he wants it to right now and his pokemon both seem to realize it. The honedge moves first and drifts forward, the odd ribbon hand extending to take the map from the girl. It turns and drifts back to Cloud to give it to him with a happy noise and the blonde deflates a bit.

Slowly he takes it, unable to look at Rikku again.]

I appreciate it. I was wondering how I could get my hands on one.

[disasterrific]

I can get my hands on just about anything, so if you need something just lemme know!

[...Rikku don't advertise your pickpocketing.]

My name's Rikku.

...So you're a thief.

[Cloud's frowning but it's thoughtful. Really. It is.]

I'm Cloud.

[disasterrific]

[The look on Rikku and her Murkrow's faces when Cloud hits the nail on the head is hilarous]

Most people don't figure that out so quickly...don't tell anyone?

[Geez, he's smart]

Most people don't have as many hidden pockets as you. Or as much overflowing confidence.

[Okay so it was mostly a good guess but there had been some clues.]

..Likewise.

[Sneaks promptly pokes around to make sure her pockets aren't showing]

Most people don't notice the pockets either...anyway, I mean it. If you need anything, just lemme know.

You learn to keep a close eye on people.

[Especially those you've just met. Because frankly he's just suspicious of everyone most of the time.]

So I should just track you down whenever I need help?

[disasterrific]

Or get me over the Warp Bands--d'you know how to use those yet?

[notachocobo]

[He glances down at his wrist with a frown.]

...A little.

[He hadn't really done much with it in terms of contacting others.]

There's an option to contact just one person, so you can get me like that, too.

[Seems easy enough.

His gaze slides back to her.]

...Why are you being so nice?

[She shrugs]
