TEST DRIVE MEME: APRIL + MAY EDITION

Welcome to bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are welcome to use either prose or brackets for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you. While not required, we also encourage you to take a look at the most recent AU Planning post.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 A naughty Castform is following people around and causing rain wherever they walk. Talk about spring showers!

#2 The Flower Grove is well-known for its spring blossoms. Your character has gone to visit, only to discover Gloom have moved in to enjoy the pleasant fragrance! And now the pleasant fragrance...isn't.

#3 This baby Pidgey has fallen out of its nest!!! What do you do? Do you get help? It's squawking and flapping like nobody's business. Might be hard to hang onto without somebody else around to spot you...

#4 Glacier is excited for the Big Spring Thaw! They will tell this to anyone who comes to see them at Citadel, and will even lead expeditions up to the Obsidian Flats to show off the lovely warm weather......while it's still snowing.

#5 Union is still repairing itself after Kyurem's attack. Construction workers are needed at this site. Humans and Pokémon are both welcome, but the supervisor is a Machoke. Communication could get tricky.

[Haruka's face brightens considerably as she opens the umbrella, at last shielding herself from the rain.]

Ah! It's very nice to meet you, Towa! Aroma! I'm Ha...ha...HACHOO!

[After sneezing, Haruka sheepishly takes out a (soggy) handkerchief and wipes her nose.]

... I'm Haruka Haruno, and this is my friend, Crows...

[ ...and here Towa was about to reach for a handkerchief for the girl as well. ]

It's very nice to meet you Haruka. Now, we absolutely must get you somewhere that you can warm up and change into some dry clothes. Do you live nearby?

Ah-ah, well... [Haruka looks slightly mortified.]

I don't live far from here, no. It shouldn't take us too long to get back.

Perfect!

[ Wait. ]

May I walk with you, then?

[ Clearly miss princess here doesn't have anything better to do than follow friendly strangers around. Or maybe she does and that's why Aroma looks a bit agitated. ]

I am still somewhat new here, and I would like to see more of the city.

[Haruka blinked in surprise at what Towa said, about not being from the city. Crows, meanwhile, bristled in suspicion.]

You're not from Union...? Well, I'd be perfectly happy to let you walk with me! I still have errands to do, so maybe you could follow me after I get into some dry clothes...?

[ You can't have hilarious outsider misunderstandings if she's from Union!

Towa's a bit overwhelmed, but charmed by the way people and Pokemon here pull together - and Haruka seems no different. Crows though...

Aroma is looking a bit warily at the other bird. ]

I've only just arrived, in fact. Don't let me inconvenience you if those errands require haste, though.

[Haruka just grinned wider, guiding Towa along.]

No, no! It's no trouble! I have all day to do them! As long as they're all done before sundown, it should be fine!

[Crows spied Aroma, and narrowed his little birdy eyes, puffing up his chest in an effort to look more intimidating.]

[ This is, like, her lucky day! ]

That leaves you with plenty of time. Thank you.

[ Aroma meanwhile is standing up all straight and proper and trying to look above the act of very intently looking above a ruffian like Crows. ]

[Somehow, they make it to Haruka's house without either of the birds causing an incident. Haruka's family is immediately welcoming and kind to Towa, doing their best to foist sweets upon her while Haruka is busy changing. Their party is also joined by Haruka's Bulbasaur Blossom, who is just as eager to mother hen the new arrival.

Haruka practically has to pull Towa away from them, they're so into her daughter's new friend. As the five of them step outside, Haruka laughs nervously.]

I'm really sorry about all that...!

[ Lots of puffing and staring isn't an incident, no. It's hard to fight when your human friends are getting along so well.

Jiminy Christmas this family is enthusiastic though; it all leaves Towa a bit overwhelmed by the time Haruka's dragging her off, now in possession of some kind of snack. ]

N-no, don't apologize. They're... very friendly.

Heh, they really are, but... they mean well! Really!

[Haruka looked down at the deliveries she'd been tasked with making, picking them up. Inside were sweets that had been ordered by various people.]

The first of these will take us all the way across the city. Are you ready for that?

[ Towa really does like them but wow she needs something to distract them with next time lest she pass out. ]

A-anywhere in the city is fine, as long as I have a guide.

[hananoprincess]

[Haruka nodded, and laughed.]

Let's be off then!

[And... they're off on their way.]

... Ah, Towa, I didn't get a chance to ask. If you're new to Union, where exactly are you from...?

[actualprincess]

[ Well given that there's nowhere to have an actual princess of... ]

I am from Sanctuary. We - the people of Sanctuary, and my family - are very grateful to Union.

[hananoprincess]

[Haruka's eyes widened, and she suddenly appeared very excited.]

Ah...! Sanctuary! I always wanted to meet someone from there!

And now you have!

[ Isn't that nice? ]

I'm happy to meet so many kind people here.

[hananoprincess]

[Haruka let out a quiet laugh.]

Well, I try to live up to the good example set for me...

You're as sweet as the rest of your family at the very least, Haruka!

[ Despite being overwhelmed she was also very charmed. ]

[Haruka blushes a little, looking to the side. Wait, was that a pun about their profession? Oh well, pay it no mind.]

Thanks...! But it's not just them, I want to be like! There's all the enlightened who have done amazing things, and...

... ahaha, never mind. It's a bit silly...

[ A purely unintentional pun on Towa's part! ]

Hm? [ She tilts her head. ]

The Enlightened... those people born with powers - they're certainly treated differently here.

Ah-ah, well...

[Upon hearing what Towa says next, however, she takes the opportunity to not have to elaborate. Instead, she asks a question.]

How are the Enlightened treated in Sanctuary...?

It's not as though they are... exactly downtrodden... but compared to the mages they are certainly far less respected. It is seen as wild and savage compared to the more refined and, ah, civilized magic.

[ Not that she wants to call all y'all savages or anything. ]

[hananoprincess]

... Oh. [Haruka looks a bit shaken, and put off by this. Her eyes find the ground, and she looks a bit sad.]

I always wanted to be an Enlightened. To have adventures. To be a part of the stories I grew up hearing...

I think it's a wonderful thing! Views have shifted a little bit since we were freed, as well...

Being connected to Pokemon can't be a bad thing, right?

[ Asked while reaching up to pat her own on the head lightly. ]

[Haruka's smile returns, and she's nodded.]

That's right! Even if my Pokemon and I don't get along sometimes, I think I'm stronger having gotten a chance to be with them...!
