TEST DRIVE MEME: APRIL + MAY EDITION

Welcome to

bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are welcome to use either prose or brackets for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you. While not required, we also encourage you to take a look at the most recent AU Planning post.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 A naughty Castform is following people around and causing rain wherever they walk. Talk about spring showers!

#2 The Flower Grove is well-known for its spring blossoms. Your character has gone to visit, only to discover Gloom have moved in to enjoy the pleasant fragrance! And now the pleasant fragrance...isn't.

#3 This baby Pidgey has fallen out of its nest!!! What do you do? Do you get help? It's squawking and flapping like nobody's business. Might be hard to hang onto without somebody else around to spot you...

#4 Glacier is excited for the Big Spring Thaw! They will tell this to anyone who comes to see them at Citadel, and will even lead expeditions up to the Obsidian Flats to show off the lovely warm weather......while it's still snowing.

#5 Union is still repairing itself after Kyurem's attack. Construction workers are needed at this site. Humans and Pokémon are both welcome, but the supervisor is a Machoke. Communication could get tricky.

[ There is no escape. There is only dragon, and Dragon Rage at close quarters.

It'll do the same amount of damage regardless, but it's the principle of the thing. The message it sends.

Shizuru's teapot is also no longer functional. She sighs. And Kiyohime lets go - but only to see whether this thing needs one last lesson. ]

[Graveler immediately starts rolling off into the Flats, not even looking backwards for its friends. Then again, it hasn't exactly encountered grouchy emo dinosaurs before.

Natsuki lets the ice forming above her palm die away. It doesn't look like she can be bothered enough to do something about the ice wall (which might or might not be marring the view).

Glance over at you.] Did it break?

[she still can't believe you brought that with you on the trail]

I don't think it's unsalvagable.... [ Shizuru turns the pot over in her hands, thinking. Kiyohime snaps its jaws at the retreating Graveler once for good measure, then returns to Shizuru's side as if nothing had happened.

She hangs the pot on its horn. ] Are you all right?

[ Asked to Natsuki, not Kiyohime. Kiyohime is just fine. ]

[a blink. Why would anybody ask that...?]

Yeah. [it's weird and awkward how she suddenly doesn't know what to do with her hands. Or where to look. She takes a moment to glance over the cliff edge, and then stuffs her hands back into her pockets.

A jerk of her head towards where the rest of the group is.] Let's go.

[before the Graveler manage to climb back up the cliff. And maybe she can get this tour over with so things can get back to normal.]

[ Shizuru watches this little show with a smile that's wider on one side of her face than the other, then turns to follow her tour guide. ] As you wish.

[ Kiyohime follows gamely. Somehow, even a growly bitey blind dragon can manage to walk with a teapot hanging from its head without clattering. This pair has discipline, indeed.

Shizuru, for her part, is as serene as if she hadn't just revealed herself to be carrying a concealed weapon and then chucked a wild Pokémon over a cliff with it. What a lovely day for a tour. ]

[either through sheer willpower or just by being dense, Natsuki manages to miss that smile. Duran follows along in her wake, tail wagging happily even if Trainer seems to be stomping a bit more than usual.

It looks like the other guide has finished speaking at length about the Flats and they're ready to start heading back. Natsuki glances back at you. Are you good with this?]

[ There is no missing the bright smile Natsuki will get in return for checking up on Shizuru! She's just fine. Pity she missed the last bit of guided tour, but well, some people will cause a fuss.

She sticks close as they head back, then nods to the other guide. He had to pick up some slack while Natsuki was busy with her, so. ] I trust you won't get in trouble.

[Natsuki has no idea how to react to that smile, so you'll just get a blank look and a faint flush. And then she's stubbornly looking ahead while trying not to think about why she's getting so worked up. (it's anger, right?? What else is there???)

She snorts.] If they try to make something out of it, then I'm quitting.

[she's not very invested in this tourism operation, no.]

Are you in a position to do that? [ More honest curiosity. Perhaps it's her bias showing - she's still new to Glacier - but she doesn't get the idea that work might be easy to come by in a city picking itself up out of the literal ashes.

And you have such an adorable fuzzy little follower to look after... ]

I only got dragged into this because that idiot got sick.

[Natsuki seems rather unconcerned about this.] I've got better things to do anyway.

[and really, it's probably better to keep the grouchy one away from the tourists who are bringing in business.]

What a pity.

[ Shizuru pouts. ] I'm so much more interested in Glacier now....

[deadpan] Was it the snow or the Gravelers?

[you still get a slight smirk though]

[ You made a joke! And that's almost a smile on your face, isn't it? ] I wonder!

[ A pause while they descend this...mountain? Wherever they've been walking. ] Thank you.

[it's like she's almost capable of emotions! Maybe!

Have a slightly confused look though.] What for?

I'll have to return the favor if you're ever in Caldera.

[ Shizuru tilts her head slightly. ] Look me up, okay?

I'd probably melt there.

[if she's going to feel oddly bereft at this goodbye (???), she's going to grouch instead]

[ The tour is nearly over, is it not? What a pity. A terrible, horrible pity. ] We'll take good care of you.

[ There will be no melting on her watch! ]

[she snorts, looking away for a moment. Her, go to Caldera? Maybe when hell freezes over. Literally. She probably won't even leave a corpse, just a puddle.

Duran barks, offering her a tail wag when she looks over. Natsuki raises an eyebrow, but all she gets is a damnably cute puppy smile.

She huffs, and then offers you a rare, small smile.]

We'll see.

[Duran is definitely the smarter of the two.]

[ For the first time, Shizuru herself looks surprised - by that smile, of all things. But then she settles back into her usual placid, serene grin. ] I'll look forward to it.

[ "We'll see" apparently now means "it's settled".

....perhaps she should check ahead of time with how comfortable Natsuki is with partial nudity, it being practically a Calderan national pastime and all.

............naaaaah. ]
