Testrun meme (January & February)

TESTRUN MEME

1) New Years Celebration! There are fireworks all over the city! And that means your Pokémon are probably hiding under the bed. No matter how big they are. What do?

2) There's been some heavy snowfall and the connecting bridges are overloaded. They're really slick and icy and need to be plowed for safety. You and your Pokémon have been selected for this "honor". Have fun!

3) With the winter coming, the Hot Springs have been overwhelmed by an abundance of monkey Pokémon. They've been attacking citizens who are trying to soak in the pools and it's creating a big problem. Go resolve it!

4) Caldera has been working on a project to restore some of their fortifications, and that means they need strong trainers and Pokémon to help carry and work the stone and metal. Time to help out!

5) The Tropical Island has become something of a destination in the wintertime, and it's getting really crowded. Some Pokémon researchers need to conduct studies on the volcano but the throng of tourists is simply too much. Help clear a path!

6) Wildcard! Make your own prompt!

Bilbo Baggins | The Hobbit

[personal profile] roadsprings 2015-02-11 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ 1 ]

[ fireworks! now, Bilbo is actually quite fond of fireworks, particularly the ones that have real artistry put into them, and so he rather looks forward to the new year's displays.

that's not to say, of course, that Minty does. but where other Pokemon would hide under the bed, the Flabébé's small enough to find other hiding places.

like down the back of Bilbo's jacket, for example.

this is leading to what is probably an incredibly entertaining scene to watch from a distance, with Bilbo attempting to contort himself into some pretty interesting shapes trying to coax her out. ]

Minty - come on, girl, we've talked about this. Honestly, the back of my jacket is really no place to hide, you'll get crushed down there--!

[ the only response is an unhappy trill, meaning that, actually, it's the only place to hide, and a very nice one at that.

bother. ]

[ 6a ]

[ where does one find a librarian? in a library, usually. Bilbo can be found behind the front desk, or perhaps somewhere among the shelves reshelving books in their proper place. doubtless he'll be more than happy to lend a hand to anyone who might need it. ]

[ 6b because i can't be contained ]

[ or, if the librarian in question has undergone some character development that's awoken his Tookish side once and for all that we're handwaving because test drive, you might find him near the entrance to the ruins in the swamp. maybe you travelled with him here! who knows.

either way, the ruins had been an obvious choice, for someone with as much of a professional (and, well, let's be honest here, a personal) interest in history as Bilbo. no one seemed to know anything about what the place was a ruin of, exactly, which meant that there surely had to be something down there worth knowing.

worth a look, in any case.

right.

Bilbo might be getting used to this adventuring business, but he's still having some misgivings now that he's standing here and staring at the hole in the ground that serves as an entrance to the underground portion of the ruined building (and that he almost fell down just now, thank you very much). ]

I think I might be starting to have second thoughts...
darer: (you gonna explain this?)

6b it is!

Are you? Perhaps you should have had them earlier.

[ Thorin meanwhile is fastening a rope around a nearby tree that they can clim down. he has less interest in the ruins around Union than he does those in Caldera, but nevertheless, history is an important thing to reclaim. and if they can meet new pokemon or scavenge something useful in the process, all the better.

one way or another, as far as Thorin is concerned, the librarian is a little late in reconsidering matters now that they are here. he gives the rope a tug to see if it will hold him - because if it holds him, it will certainly hold Bilbo. ]
roadsprings: (where it began)

[ Bilbo turns to look at Thorin with a sharp: ]

Yes, thank you, Thorin, that's very helpful advice. "Have them earlier next time". I'll write that down so I don't forget, shall I?

[ though he'd be lying if he said that there wasn't a part of him agreeing, with a reproachful look, and wishing that he'd just stayed at home.

Bilbo politely tells that part of him to shush. they're here, now, and so they might as well do what they planned to do.

after a short sigh: ]
Sorry. It's just it all looks quite different when you're up close and almost falling down the thing.

[ he turns around properly now after gingerly backing away from the aforementioned hole in the ground, eyeing up Thorin's handiwork. ]

I take it we're abseiling down?
darer: (you gonna explain this?)

[personal profile] darer 2015-02-11 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Thorin gives Bilbo a flat look for his outburst. he doesn't appreciate being snapped at any more than the next person, and frankly, it's a little late to turn back now, even if he won't talk Bilbo out of it if that's what he wants. ]

Yes.

[ a beat. ]

Will that be a problem?

[ librarians, he supposes, aren't generally used to climbing anything but ladders or carrying their own weight. it's easy to forget. ]
roadsprings: (i cannot say)

[personal profile] roadsprings 2015-02-11 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, not a problem. I mean, I can't say I've ever made a habit of it, but since I'm not likely to sprout wings any time soon...

[ and thank goodness. imagine being a Flying type and having to deal with something like that! still, at least he's climbed trees before. though that's very different to climbing down a rope into a dark hole. ]

Well, there's only one thing for it, isn't there?
darer: (I have a plan okay.)

[personal profile] darer 2015-02-14 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
You can still turn back.

[ it's a matter of fact thing, and Thorin re-checks the knot, which will hold him, and secures his backpack. whether or not Bilbo comes along is not his business or his choice, and the Calderan doesn't seem to care either way. ]
roadsprings: (the road goes ever on and on)

[personal profile] roadsprings 2015-02-14 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ briskly, with a raised eyebrow: ]

You just said it yourself that it's a bit late for that. [ the nerve of it! as if a body isn't allowed to be a bit apprehensive about climbing down darksome holes of unknown depth. ] No, I'm coming along, I just needed a moment. Though I'm sure you'll forgive me if my abseiling technique isn't quite up to scratch.

[ ah. it's a particularly Tookish day, then. ]
darer: (done reaching critical levels.)

totally asleep and not at all tagging. nope.

[personal profile] darer 2015-02-14 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ it's hard not to point out that he could've made better time alone, so Thorin counts his blessings in that the shorter man at least seems to have made up his mind. if he's going to keep up this kind of tone, though, Thorin isn't sure he'll be able to keep from snapping back in earnest. ]

I'll go first.

[ that way Bilbo can watch first if he feels unsure. and if he makes too grave a mistake, there will be someone below strong enough to catch him. but before anyone goes anywhere... climbing harnesses. he pulls his out of the side of his pack, disentangling it. ]

Did you bring gloves?

[ he had better have. ]
roadsprings: (pursuing it with eager feet)

i applaud ur sleeptagging technique

[personal profile] roadsprings 2015-02-14 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh - yes, half a minute--

[ with that, he begins fumbling in his pockets, attempting to perform that impossible feat of extracting gloves from pockets without pulling everything else in there out with them in the process. once they're free, he shakes them out a little and waves them slightly. ]
