TESTRUN MEME

1) New Years Celebration! There are fireworks all over the city! And that means your Pokémon are probably hiding under the bed. No matter how big they are. What do?

2) There's been some heavy snowfall and the connecting bridges are overloaded. They're really slick and icy and need to be plowed for safety. You and your Pokémon have been selected for this "honor". Have fun!

3) With the winter coming, the Hot Springs have been overwhelmed by an abundance of monkey Pokémon. They've been attacking citizens who are trying to soak in the pools and it's creating a big problem. Go resolve it!

4) Caldera has been working on a project to restore some of their fortifications, and that means they need strong trainers and Pokémon to help carry and work the stone and metal. Time to help out!

5) The Tropical Island has become something of a destination in the wintertime, and it's getting really crowded. Some Pokémon researchers need to conduct studies on the volcano but the throng of tourists is simply too much. Help clear a path!

[It's when Maka falls flat on her behind that Rei comes riding up on Casius. The big Arcanine snorts out a huff of steam as his trainer slides off, her warp band buzzing faintly as she calls up one of her myriad of psychic Pokemon. Sarek, a Beheeyem, appears and drifts over towards Maka with a concerned look on his eye.]

Are you alright, Maka-chan? Are these pests still giving you trouble?

Ah... [Oh, good, this embarrassment had to be witnessed by people she knows, not just the whooping Mankey--all clapping with delight at the funny person falling over. Maka nods, though she's finding it strangely painful to do so, and realizes much to her horror that--in addition to a bruised behind--she has scratches to contend with on her head. Though as Sarek approaches, her Espurr is worriedly circling around on her shoulders and licking the wounds.]

Only...only a little bit. It's my own fault for not being prepared for mankeyshines.

[That...that was a joke, that was a terrible joke, but she's still smiling and trying to act like it's not a big deal.]

[The martian reaches out and taps her on the head with his hand, doing what he can to ease the pain with a pulse of purplish light before fixing eyes on the Mankey.]

Well, that happens. I heard you'd volunteered to drive them off. I just thought I'd come see how you were doing.

[Rei sniffs, locking eyes with the Mankey.]

Are they not listening, then?

["Thank you," is said under her breath for the ease of pain, then Maka stands and brushes off her clothes as best as she can.]

No. Um...to be fair, some of them looked like they got where I was coming from when I said they could share the springs with everyone, but I think others saw how freaked out Stella was and decided to splash.

What was Stella's problem? Did you ask?

[She steps closer, standing beside the girl and facing the hooting horde of hooligans.]

[WAAAAAAAAAAAATEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRR!

Stella doesn't even have to be able to speak human words to put across her response to Rei's question, Maka flinches at the flood of distress and reaches up to pet her partner reassuringly.]

She doesn't want to get wet--she, um...she can't swim.

[The peanut gallery hoots louder at that, surprisingly enough they are still privy to what's being said. The Espurr looks embarrassed.]

I told her she could wait back on the rocks but she was afraid the Mankey would try to beat me up.

[It helps that Rei is capable of at least speaking to Pokemon a bit. Being a Kindred Soul and psychic helps, and Sarek magnifies her abilities immensely with his Telepathy. She cringes at the cat's disquiet, though, and fixes a deathglare on the hooting apes.]

Well, if you like, I can deal with these hoodlums.

[Raising her hand, she makes sure those Mankey get a look at the power she's able to call up. In this case, a brilliant ball of pinkish energy, tinged with flame. She will have none of your shit, you damn, dirty apes!]

There's no reason we can't all share the same space, but attacking people is beyond rude.

It's definitely obvious that they're not going to go with just words, and if something isn't done they'll hurt more people and Pokemon.

[Maka's not very strong at the point she currently is, she still has a lot to learn--particularly if she wants to even approach the level of someone like Rei, a person she looks up to. If the first strategy doesn't work, common sense says to make a new one or take what help is offered, even if it comes with a bruised sense of pride and backside.]

[Ahem.]

Please. I'll make it up to you, Rei.

Well, before I do that...

[Rei reaches out to take Maka's hand, holding it tight.]

You're a Psychic type too, aren't you? Why don't you try and drive them off first. I'll be here, but you should attempt it.

Ah--

[It's not so much the hand holding that embarrasses her as the encouragement in addition to it. No, she's used to the residents of the Vale being friendly towards her, the wary iciness has been shaken off.]

[Maka takes a deep breath and thinks about what her friend said.

Yes, she is a Psychic type. She can handle some hoodlum Primeape wannabes.

...Perhaps not all at once, but Maka will still give it the college try.

So it's not with a bang and a whimper but a nod of understanding that leads Maka to squeezing Rei's hand back and facing the Mankey.]

I'll tell you only one more time, either share nicely with the people or get out! I won't tolerate troublemakers around here! [As she speaks, Stella's fur puffs up and her ears begin to twitch, Maka herself is giving off an unmistakeably Psychic aura with bits of Fairy tinged in there.

The Mankey look surprised and concerned by this turn of events.]

[Rei does not move, she doesn't say a word. She just stands there, squeezing Maka's hand back. Her other hand retains the psychic fireball, and she makes it plain that these apes aren't going to continue their pestering of the locals. Yes, she's a friend to Pokemon, but these goobers aren't willing to share something, and they're hurting not only trainers, but other Pokemon as well.

Perhaps, unless Caesar is willing to step up and lead a rebellion, it would be best if they left.]
