TEST DRIVE MEME: JUNE + JULY EDITION

Welcome to bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are encouraged to use either first person or third person for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 Refuge has opened its gates to the people of Union, Caldera and Citadel, in the most hospitable way they feel possible: A party. Some have come to explore the expansive underground city, but mostly, word has spread about how Refuge's brews are on point. They don't seem to discriminate on age, either.

#2 The city of Caldera is starting a major production project and they need workers. The forges are constantly going day and night and the pay's good, but it's hot, hard work that'll leave you tired and achy to say the least.

#3 The Summer Solstice festival has begun in Citadel. The tree is in full bloom, with flowers of every color dot its branches. This week-long celebration brings together the various tribes that call Citadel its home through music, dancing and, of course, fighting. There is a tournament set to begin, boasting some of the strongest Valkyries that Citadel has ever known among the combatants.

#4 The heat has really gotten to the people of Union, and as a result many have moved south for a weekend get-away in the Archipelago and the larger Island. The sand is warm and the water is too, but doesn't the beach seem a bit crowded for a once seemingly deserted area?

People are staring, would you hurry up??!!

[He's trying to think of a way to cover for Cliff, but he just doesn't have the ability to do that yet.]

They're over there! [He points to the pants floating up to the surface.]

YAAASSSSS

[That's totally okay, kid. Cliff is unashamed of himself-- though, he does agree that this is the total opposite of cool.]

Gotcha!

[Sucking in a deep breath, Cliff submerged himself and kicked off in the direction of the misplaced pants. This was so so so so not cool.]

[punchesyu]

[Yosuke sighs, finally the guy was gunna be a lot less naked in a few seconds or so. That's really the last thing he wanted to see. He waits patiently for Cliff to get his clothing, but a few girls find themselves about ten feet away, gawking.]

"Did you see that? That guy is a total hunk!"

[He slumps. Why him...]

Seriously...

[Ya, srsly. Pity that Cliff probably isn't interested in them....

Pulling his pants on while submerged, he surfaced and waved a hand at Yosuke as if there were nothing strange about the situation at all.]

Thanks for the save, kid! I owe ya one!

[punchesyu]

Yeah, sure...! [He says half-heartedly. The girls come over to Yosuke, asking him questions.]

"Do you know that guy? You think you could introduce us?"

[He's feeling like a third wheel here...someone help him god.]

No, I don't know him! I was just helping him out!

[Cliff grinned, already seeing an opening to make good on his debt.]

He's kidding, ladies. [He laughed, swimming over to chill closer to where the gaggle of girls (and the kid) were.] We both wandered in from Union to catch some sun and a few waves. Wanna join us.

[He winked conspiratorially at the young man. Roll along with this, kid, and he'll get you a hot date!]

[punchesyu]

[...Oh. Oh! No, he's caught on.]

Y-Yeah! I mean, we aren't really all that busy and it would be totally sweet if you wanted to chill. [Did he...do it right. The girls giggle, but they're obviously more interested in Cliff than Yosuke.]

"Sure, but only if you tell us where you got all the tattoos!"

[aerialassault]

[Oh, sheesh. This wasn't going right at all.]

You'll need to go to Caldera for something like that-- I've not met anyone in Union willing to give tattoos yet.

[He scratched his head, thinking.]

My buddy might be able to give you a few suggestions locally, though. He's got a good eye for what's going on.

[punchesyu]

"You're from Caldera?" [Extra swooning from one of the girls. Yosuke can pretty much write off any chance with her, but there's a few others.]

Yeah, I mean they've got some really hoppin' places in Union that you gotta check out. I could totally show you when we get back, ladies.

[One of them seems mildly interested. Only mildly.]

[Oh gosh, swooning ladies is so not what he wanted today. What happened to a nice, relaxing afternoon at the beach?!

Cliff laughed off the question.]

Where I'm from doesn't matter-- Union's looking like the place to be anymore. Ain't that right, pal?

[C'mon. He's new in Union. Throw out some ideas, kid!]

[punchesyu]

Yeah! [He'll roll with this.]

There's this totally badass stadium you can go to and another place that has tons of pokémon shows. [He's not going to say what kind because he was bored as hell, but he'll throw it in.] And they've got all these sweet restaurants!

[The girls kinda shrug.] "I guess. It would suck if we went by ourselves!"

[aerialassault]

Damn right it would.

[Grinning now, Cliff reached out to clap Yosuke on the back.]

And this guy here's the best tour guide you'll find on this side of the desert. Sounds like a fun afternoon, doesn't it?

[punchesyu]

[The girls look at Yosuke. That guy?]

I'll show you all the sights, no problem. How 'bout it, when we get back?

[He gives his most confident look, but they just laugh.] "No thanks, maybe next time."

[And they turn to leave....]

No- no! Wait-- girls!

[But, it was too late. Their interest was already gone. Groaning in disappointment, Cliff smacked a fist into the water and tossed his unkempt hair.]

Sorry 'bout that, kid. Though we'd landed a nice Goldeen for ya.

[punchesyu]

[He stands with his shoulders slumped. It's always like that, though.]

It's cool, it's not like that's the first time. I appreciate the help and all. [But they were too interested in Cliff, he thinks to himself. Life isn't fair.]

[aerialassault]

[Cliff scratched his head, still clearly frustrated by that failure.]

Hey, I owed you for the pants and those girls were clearly aiming to wreck my afternoon. You looked like someone who'd appreciate the attention more.

[He shrugged. He didn't mind ladies, but this was so not the time for it.]

What I can't believe is that a smart guy like you has a hard time getting a date. You're a little weedy, but that makes no difference if you've got a good personality and sense of humor.

[punchesyu]

What the hell, weedy?! [He knows he's thin but damn it he's not that thin! He's thin for someone from Citadel, he guesses.] Man, you'd think it would be easy for me but I can't even get a girl to look in my direction!

This sucks. [Girls suck.]

[aerialassault]

[Hey, just be glad that he didn't compare you to a Bellsprout. Anyone compared to him is 'weedy', and he only said 'a little.']

Yeah. No kiddin'.

[He slumped lower in the water at the kid's words.]

Don't worry 'bout those girls though. They were all looks and no brains-- no fun in the end, either, if you're asking me.

[punchesyu]

But they were totally hot-! [That matters a lot!] Bro, beggars can't be choosers here.

[It's a sad fact of his life.]

[Cliff cast him a pointed look.]

You planning on staying a beggar for forever?

[punchesyu]

[He cringes, stepping back from that look.]

You don't have to be so harsh, dude.

[aerialassault]

Not tryin' to be harsh, kid. It just sounds like a sorry state of affairs.

[He tried to offer the kid an encouraging smile.]

We'll find a way to make you more marketable. Don't worry.

[punchesyu]

That's it. My teenage life is officially at the lowest it can go. Getting help from complete strangers.

[It's really that bad isn't it.]

It ain't so bed. Just remember, strangers are just friends you haven't met yet.

Speaking of

[Cracking a grin, he held out a hand.]

Name's Cliff. Cliff Fittir. We're not strangers now, are we?

[He's not sure if this actually makes it better, but whatever. The damage has been done. He takes the hand, shaking it halfheartedly.]

Yeah, I guess not anymore. I'm Yosuke, Yosuke Hanamura.
