Welcome to

#1 Refuge has opened its gates to the people of Union, Caldera and Citadel, in the most hospitable way they feel possible: A party. Some have come to explore the expansive underground city, but mostly, word has spread about how Refuge's brews are on point. They don't seem to discriminate on age, either.
#2 The city of Caldera is starting a major production project and they need workers. The forges are constantly going day and night and the pay's good, but it's hot, hard work that'll leave you tired and achy to say the least.
#3 The Summer Solstice festival has begun in Citadel. The tree is in full bloom, with flowers of every color dot its branches. This week-long celebration brings together the various tribes that call Citadel its home through music, dancing and, of course, fighting. There is a tournament set to begin, boasting some of the strongest Valkyries that Citadel has ever known among the combatants.
#4 The heat has really gotten to the people of Union, and as a result many have moved south for a weekend get-away in the Archipelago and the larger Island. The sand is warm and the water is too, but doesn't the beach seem a bit crowded for a once seemingly deserted area?

[Yeah, he's not so sure about this. He heard this place had been discovered some time ago by some people from Union or something. The cave network is very unlike the openness of the area around Citadel, and he's not so sure if he's liking it. But the party is awesome. Somehow, he finds himself shoved over to where their alcohol is being served, and someone thrusts a mug in front of him.]
Uh, are you sure I can have that...?
[And how stupid would he look if he got drunk...how is he going to make a good impression on anyone in that state?]

[This is one of his favorite holidays in Citadel every year. Lots of celebration, hanging out, good food, and the tournament. Where he gets to watch really hot, strong women fight each other. Did he mention that they're hot? Also he'd never want to get on their bad side.

The stranger better be joking, because the stubborn powdery pink mess that was blasted unevenly in Waver's dark hair was already starting to wear on his limited amount of patience. He brushed at it fruitlessly with equally messy hands-- the multiple colors that covered his otherwise pristine clothes made it amply clear that he was a casualty of the color war that had overtaken the streets earlier that day.]
Ready for what? [He demanded, acting as if there was absolutely nothing wrong in that moment.] Getting pelted by color bombs by half naked men who have no sense of propriety?
[....Or not. His clothes may never recover from this...and that was saying nothing about his pride.]

[It had been a stroke of luck, of sorts, that the call for workers had come when it did. Takeshi had been in Caldera for at least a couple of months already, but getting by had been difficult. He'd arrived with nothing but the ratty clothes on his back after his escape from Gigas. The owner of a small shop had been kind enough to take pity on him and give him a place to sleep in exchange for helping out. He was deeply grateful, but he knew he couldn't stay forever. He'd already broken more than he could make reasonable excuses for without revealing what he was, and there were days when his head was too much of a mess and he couldn't work at all, shutting himself in his room and refusing to come out.]
[But physical labor turned out to not only be a good use for his new abilities, it also served as a good distraction from his own mind. Even with his strength he was still worn out enough at the end of the day that he could sleep a little better. The fires felt hotter than they had when he was human, but that was fine. That was a distraction too.]
[So here he was, in Caldera doing hard physical work when he'd initially wanted to come for research. Whatever it took to get by without causing any incidents. Tonight he was heading back to the shop after a hard day's work while most of the others went to drink; he'd figured out early on that alcohol did nothing for him now. Soon he'd have enough to move out and pay back the owner for their kindness and all the damages he'd caused.]

[Going on vacation so soon after returning to Union didn't really appeal to Takeshi, but he had certain friend(s) who felt otherwise. So somehow he found himself on the beach... but fully dressed and wearing gloves that seem far from weather appropriate.]
[He'd been under the impression it wouldn't be this... crowded. Oh well. He could still try to relax. He makes due by sitting by himself on a towel a ways away from the water, occasionally people watching between flipping through a book on human biology.]

for such reasons as destroying their worlds or stealing their powers or being an ass. For AU purposes, he is from Gigas and had sever brain trauma so remembers nothing of his past so basically the start of the series except he has a pokemon and minus Natsumi to yell at him.]]1
[Tsukasa wasn't one for drinking. He disliked the lack of coordination that came with too much alcohol, but he had to be polite in order to get some money. As it was, his violin playing had won him some extra coin though it wasn't enough for some film for his camera. He had just taken a large mouthful of the stuff when he felt a familiar weight landing on his shoulder followed by the very familiar cry of 'Stop! Thief!'
He swallowed, gently put his violin back in its case and looked up at his purrloin.]
Deca... [Two shiny rings fell to the ground and Tsukasa took a step back, raising his hands.] Sorry about that, she just likes shiny objects. No hard feelings, right?

[Ever since he woke up in a hospital unsure of anything but his name, his pokemon's name, and the feeling that he had something important to do, Tsukasa had drifted. The people that had found him had offered to give him shelter until his memories returned, but he disliked the boundaries that would place on him, disliked the fact that they were being too nice for someone with a cracked skull, and so he left and went to the next town. The next town became another, and then another, and soon he found himself in the Archipelago, a camera in hand and his purrloin sitting on his shoulder.
He was taking pictures for people that wanted one in exchange for a small fee. Sometimes his pokemon would leave his side to wander the crowds, and later on he was forced to apologize to some stranger while returning a stolen valuable. The ever-so nice people that had seen to him getting patched up had told him it was wrong to steal, and while he found the idea annoying, it was just not worth the effort to argue against it, especially when there were so many people that agreed.
It would have made life better if he could keep the small objects Deca acquired but that would mean having to find a way to exchange it for something else, and running from the law, and it just seemed like a waste of effort all around. While both he and Deca were able to make enough to scrape by with the photography, the lure of easy goods was there, especially for the purple feline.
A tall man with raggedly cut hair pinned down by bright pink barrettes, he flopped in the shade of a ice stand and watched the beach fill up.]
This is ridiculous... I'm not looking for a small child in that mess. [Deca looked up at him and then smiled at the bright yellow ball she was holding onto.] Brat. Why couldn't you grab something useful?
[Even though he sounded mad, he reached down to pet her and then tossed the ball. She was off into the crowd after it, her tail twitching with the excitement.]

[The stranger didn't look overly concerned, so maybe it wasn't a case of a child gone missing. But it couldn't hurt to make sure. Takeshi himself keeps his hands at his sides, but he's notably wearing gloves with long cuffs that extend past his sleeves. Despite that, the black marks under his eyes are probably enough to indicate that he's an Enlightened (or that he just has strange taste in makeup).]

[ Summers were murder in Caldera, and with the major renovations (or whatever they were doing, she honestly didn't know) going on, Excellen sure was glad she got reassigned elsewhere. She even got vacation time, which was pretty awesome. Hearing about the tropical islands down south, she could hardly resist.
So there she was, dressed in the latest Calderan summer fashion, patrolling the beach. There were so many people around, it really was impressive. She could have some fun here.
Spying someone of interest, Excellen called out. ]

[Say what you want about Minato, but the kid has a refreshing love for his hometown. So much so, in fact, that he gladly volunteers to help out with construction, especially since he's an Engineer.
But what he hadn't counted on was how hard the work was going to be. At the end of the day, he's slumped on a bench, exhausted from the day's work.]
Aw, maaaaan! I feel like one gigantic bruise! I dunno if I can even make it home...

[It's Minato's turn on the tournament grounds. He casually strolls on, dressed in...his normal clothing? And he has no weapons. What's he thinking?]
Congratulations. You'll be the first person to see...
[He raises his arm up in front of his face. Visible is a wristband with a giant letter "G" on it.]
...my greatest masterpiece!
LET'S! TRY! OOOOONNNNN!
[BGM
He slams the G and then raises his hand into the air. Immediately, three unusual machines -- one shaped like a Braviary, one like a Corphish, and one like a Pyroar -- fly into the arena, then line up in front of Minato, forming an equilateral triangle, emitting a force field with the letter "G" on it.
Then the machines begin to transform. The Braviary's wings fold in and the legs fold out and extend to more closely resemble a human's before breaking apart and re-forming over Minato's legs. The Corphish opens up to cover Minato's torso, and the wings dock with it to form arms for his own to fit into. Then the Pyroar leaps into the air, opens up, and forms the rest of the body, with the Pyroar head going right over the chest. Then a mask arises around Minato's head and seals.
This is the end result.]

Spoilers: it's revealed late in the series that he has an evil alter-ego that can shift into a squid monsterFor this AU, the Hikari Photo Studio is set in Union, and Natsumi's grandpa is a Malamar Shifter that migrated to Union when he was a young Inkay.))#3: Citadel
[Natsumi's hardly ever been outside of Union and its forest region, so accompanying her grandfather to Citadel is a real opportunity. Not only would it be good business for their photo studio, but she's personally interested in learning more about the culture of the local tribes - especially the fact that it's a matriarchy instead of the usual patriarchy.
One can find the young Union Enlightened wandering around with a hand-held camera in hand, snapping a few photos and asking thoughtful questions regarding the traditions and culture of Citadel. Trailing close behind her is a little Happiny, who's viewing everything with the wide-eyed wonder of a young child.]
#4 - Tropical Getaway
[A weekend on the Tropical Island, away from the near-constant work of running a family business... It sounded wonderful at first, and it's the perfect time and place to let her grandfather Shift into his Malamar form without risking his Dark typing overshadowing his actions. Plus, it'll be a good time as any to teach little Chiaki how to swim, and what better teacher than the family Shifter?
The only problem? The crowds. Especially crowds of people who think very loudly. Ever since Natsumi's Awakening a few years ago, she's been careful about letting herself get stuck in very crowded areas for too long. Too many minds thinking too loudly in one spot tends to wear on the young Psychic after a while.
So, the Hikari family pitches their umbrella a little ways from the crowd. It's not as pretty a location as where the crowds are, but the slope's still gentle enough that the little Happiny can splash and play in the water's edge without too much trouble. And if anyone's looking for Natsumi herself? Well, she's sporting a very nice swimsuit beneath a lacy shawl and wide-brimmed hat.]

[Somewhere in the nicer part of the Residential District of Union, there is a small shop/home combo with the sign out front: Hikari Photography Studio. Maybe you've stumbled upon it by chance, or maybe this is where you intended to be. But for whatever reason, should you chose to step inside, you'll be greeted by Natsumi, who sits at the front desk in the foyer.]

Lucas Nemesis | Gundam Build Fighters Try | Calderan Analyst, Dark/Flying
[The stadium is packed to the brim to watch the tournament. Right now, there's a match unfolding between two favorites to win the whole thing.
Seated next to you is a young man, his gaze focused intensely upon the battle at hand. He is obviously an Analyst with how his eyes keep up with the fighting without missing a single beat.]
It's been really close up until now...but this match won't last much longer. The Valkyrie has a huge advantage over her opponent now.
[In spite of what he says, the match still looks like a close one and continues to be one. What could make him think it's over?]

I figured it would be busier, but I never expected it to be this busy...
[Lucas sighs in disappointment. This was supposed to be a relaxing getaway, but it was really hard to get away when there were this many people around. He fits in pretty well, with his black swimming trunks and towel draped around his neck, but there's just so many people around.]
Maybe there's a place with fewer people around? This island is big enough to have an alcove or two, right?
[Perhaps you know of a place?]

[The cat has been let out of the bag. You now know that Lucas's grandfather is none other than Josef Kankaansyrjä, the wealthiest man in all of Caldera.
Yet all this time, Lucas has been living in a modest apartment in Union and working in town, teaching people about the use of strategy and tactics in battles. Surely the grandson of such a wealthy businessman didn't need to do such things?
At any rate, Lucas is unhappy. He hadn't wanted anybody to find out his connection to the Kankaansyrjä family.]
Does it matter? I'm not my grandfather, and I don't want to be him. Who cares who my relatives are? I don't talk to him any more, anyway.

Elka watched the tournament with the professional interest of a trained fighter. She has a very...vocal way of watching, though.
"Come on! Kick her while she's down! Make her rue the day she was born! I don't see enough ruing!"
The fight didn't end right there, much to Elka's disappointment.
"Hmph. Show fighting. They wouldn't last two rounds against some of the pros from the Battalion of Steel."
National pride can be a stubborn thing.

National pride is all well and good, but it sometimes can take the backseat to a tropical beach. Assume Elka is a friend for this thread
"Hey, hang out here if you want, but I just convinced that security guy over there to let us onto the private sections of the beach. Won't be so crowded over there."
There's something a little suspicious about how she said "convinced".

Saber | Fate/Stay Night | Honedge Shifter
Saber, ever since awakening to a 'human' side that may or may not have been an echo of her Ghost half's original life, had been thoroughly confused about a number of things. Should she approach this situation as a human would? A Pokémon? A departed spirit?
Among the bright green leaves and lights and music of Citadel's celebration, however, she found one thing she could be happy with without pretense: fighting tournament, yes.
She eagerly awaited an opponent in the fighting ring, although she naturally kept her face calm and her mind clear, ready to face an opponent and test her skills.
Of course, she'd been waiting for a while now, and may have longer to wait still. Given the festive nature of the party (and the fact that they handed out tickets), she looks more than a bit out of place waiting intensely for a turn to fight instead of joining in the dancing or talking or other festivities. Someone would have to drag her away from the arena, though, to get her to spend time anywhere else.

On another day, Saber could be found on the shores of the tropical island, or more accurately, under the edge of the treeline, fully clothed, looking rather suspiciously out at the water. She had several questions running through her mind, mostly on the subject of rusting and whether it would be missing the point to just float over the water in Honedge form...
To all outside appearances, though, she's either brooding dramatically or being skittish. She could use a push.

[John was trapped in the opposite side of the map for the better part of last year, so He hadn't had the chance to check out all these new places. He'd heard of Caldera, obviously, since they had contact with Sanctuary, but Refuge was all a mystery to him.]
[So when he heard about the party he decide to slide in and see. They weren't kidding! It was a little loud for him, but whatever they kept shoving at him to drink was making it a lot less of a problem.]
[He's drunk. He has probably never been drunk before.]
[You might find him sitting at a table giggling like a moron at one of hs pokemon.]
Oh man. Slimer. You're kind of like a big goopy ball of snot sometimes. Look at this- [He puts both of his hands on the somewhat confused pokemon and then pulls his hands away taking a trail of slime with him.]

There's a bout of disembodied laughing not far from you before the wiry, bespectacled nerd materializes out of thing air, floating a few feet up, laughing at your expense.]
You should have seen the look on your face, it was the best! Haha, I totally got you, sorry. I couldn't resist.

To say that Waver was utterly mortified by the undignified sound of his startled yelp when said bucket landed on his head, knocking him flat on his ass, was an understatement.
Jaw hanging open, face bright red, he threw the bucket at the offender and sent him a withering look.]

[It was good to be back.
It was especially good to be back just in time to help with an expansion project. Although construction work was far from his specialty, he saw it as a fun way to re-integrate himself with the community. After so many months, he wanted to see first hand how things had changed...

[The heat was a part of life for someone from Caldera. It was a dry, dusty heat that permeated every inch of your being, coated them in a layer that couldn't be scrubbed away no matter how many times you went at it with soap, and was such a constant that everyone understood its temperament. In the islands it was different--- it was damp, cloying, and the afternoon rains did nothing to help.
There was no way to cool off.....except through the strategic removal of clothes.
The boots went first, tossed aside in the meager camp he had set up. The shirt, dark and made of thick fibers, came next. Finally, dressed only in his cut off pants, Cliff gave up on any pretenses of being a serious explorer and simply dove into the water as he was.
Beach goers would get an eyeful of an unabashed Calderan who was unashamed of his multiple piercings and tattoos. Old friends might note that he's sporting a few fresh looking scars, still ragged from how recent they were.
Cliff, however, didn't care. The water, though the temperature of a bath, was far more refreshing than being on land.]

[He's standing in the surf. He hasn't even bothered to put on a swimsuit, just wearing his normal clothes, water reaching his ankles and rising. Sometimes he watches the clouds roll above him, or looks out to some far distance where the waves gather and build or some nearer one where they break into foam. Either way, he's lost in it now.
Somewhere nearby, the Poliwag splashes around and makes a fuss. Maybe he's ignoring it. Maybe he doesn't notice. It all comes down to the same thing in the end, so why does it matter what the reason is?]

[The heat really had gotten almost unbearable. After receiving permission to travel to the archipelago, Blaike found himself standing on the beach, the waves lapping at the toes of his boots.
Unfortunately, there were too many other people around. At least in his opinion. This was supposed to be a break for him to relax and cool down. Anyone from Union has likely seen him around the new Enhanced establishment or hanging out around one of the bars.

( relaxing is a strange concept. downtime is a strange concept. Lan Fan isn't sure what to do with herself at the beach, but at least she's not currently all in black (but certainly not in a swimsuit either). still, she's hanging back, sticking to the shade and mostly just watching what other people are doing. for once, she's not wearing her prosthetic, so the left sleeve of her t-shirt is empty. her nincada friend can be seen skittering about. )

except he knows perfectly well why he came here. he came because everyone else was coming, because it was supposed to be fun, and he hadn't wanted to be left behind. if it meant having company, having people to play with, then he was perfectly willing to put himself through the horrid discomfort of heat and humidity. but at the moment, he is regretting the decision. other people are enjoying the sand, the water, the sun - and he's stuck wandering around in the shade while Flabébé scolds him for being out in the heat like this. he's shirtless and almost glowing for how pale his skin is, the Moon Man's pendant still hanging around his neck.
and then he spots a familiar face in the shade, and all his gloom just dissipates.

Oh, this is so wonderful! Look at all the people!
[ Elizabeth is walking the streets of Citadel with a Ralts in her arms. she's trying to look around at absolutely everything, and occasionally, she does a happy twirl. making it to Union was already a miracle; travelling outside of it is a dream come true. ]

[After a long run, Teddie felt relieved to be in an area much more calm, and with a lot less fire. The west side of Verdant Forest was a haven compared to the Scorched Forest, especially since it didn't have any Houndour's chasing his fuzzy, blue, bear butt.
Speaking of which, it stood out against all the green, and to make matters worse, he was a Cubchoo that stood at about four feet tall. The not-so-little bear stood out like a sore thumb, and it's what kept him vigilant, but sometimes something will catch him by surprise. Today was one of those days, for a Pineco happened to drop out of the tree from above, and landed dangerously close to Teddie.]
Eeeeeek! What is thaaaaaaaat!? [As he screeched in terror, he backed away from the rather unhappy Pineco.]

[Now this was a paradise! For most, but it was better than the unbearable heat in Union, and this Cubchoo couldn't resist a getaway like this one! There was food to be had, games to play, swimming to be done, and the most important part, scoring with the ladies! There were so many of them around, how could any bear resist!?]
