TEST DRIVE MEME: JUNE + JULY EDITION

Welcome to

bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are encouraged to use either first person or third person for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 Refuge has opened its gates to the people of Union, Caldera and Citadel, in the most hospitable way they feel possible: A party. Some have come to explore the expansive underground city, but mostly, word has spread about how Refuge's brews are on point. They don't seem to discriminate on age, either.

#2 The city of Caldera is starting a major production project and they need workers. The forges are constantly going day and night and the pay's good, but it's hot, hard work that'll leave you tired and achy to say the least.

#3 The Summer Solstice festival has begun in Citadel. The tree is in full bloom, with flowers of every color dot its branches. This week-long celebration brings together the various tribes that call Citadel its home through music, dancing and, of course, fighting. There is a tournament set to begin, boasting some of the strongest Valkyries that Citadel has ever known among the combatants.

#4 The heat has really gotten to the people of Union, and as a result many have moved south for a weekend get-away in the Archipelago and the larger Island. The sand is warm and the water is too, but doesn't the beach seem a bit crowded for a once seemingly deserted area?

[The stadium is packed to the brim to watch the tournament. Right now, there's a match unfolding between two favorites to win the whole thing.

Seated next to you is a young man, his gaze focused intensely upon the battle at hand. He is obviously an Analyst with how his eyes keep up with the fighting without missing a single beat.]

It's been really close up until now...but this match won't last much longer. The Valkyrie has a huge advantage over her opponent now.

[In spite of what he says, the match still looks like a close one and continues to be one. What could make him think it's over?]

I figured it would be busier, but I never expected it to be this busy...

[Lucas sighs in disappointment. This was supposed to be a relaxing getaway, but it was really hard to get away when there were this many people around. He fits in pretty well, with his black swimming trunks and towel draped around his neck, but there's just so many people around.]

Maybe there's a place with fewer people around? This island is big enough to have an alcove or two, right?

[Perhaps you know of a place?]

[The cat has been let out of the bag. You now know that Lucas's grandfather is none other than Josef Kankaansyrjä, the wealthiest man in all of Caldera.

Yet all this time, Lucas has been living in a modest apartment in Union and working in town, teaching people about the use of strategy and tactics in battles. Surely the grandson of such a wealthy businessman didn't need to do such things?

At any rate, Lucas is unhappy. He hadn't wanted anybody to find out his connection to the Kankaansyrjä family.]

Does it matter? I'm not my grandfather, and I don't want to be him. Who cares who my relatives are? I don't talk to him any more, anyway.

Sure, doing your own thing. That's fine. But why you gotta do it from some dinky little apartment in the middle of nowhere? Don't tell me you couldn't afford a high rise condo in the rich part of town and have champagne every day!

Because that would have meant relying on my grandfather. I didn't want his help.

[The startup money he used originally came from his grandfather, but Lucas knows when to make a compromise.]

If I left him but still took favors from him, then I'd have accomplished nothing.

So what, is he a major asshole then?

[Lucas winces at that. He's not used to such blunt speech.]

He's...

His morals end with his family. He loves us, but he goes about the wrong ways of showing it.

How wrong are we talking about here? Would he ruin someone's life if they crossed you?

That...depends on how badly they crossed me. But he's dealt in Enhanced before.

Enhanced. Scary.

[Sounds like maybe the right decision to cut off ties.]

...So not even one swanky high rise party?

I've never enjoyed high-class social events. They're always too dull.

I was thinking more of the "loud music and pushing people into swimming pools" kind of party. Just with fancy digs.

[Sinbad was dressed with as little as he could get away with. He looks down from the branch he's perched on as he reaches over, plucking a fruit from the tree]

Yeah, there's such a place. You'd have to walk over some sharp rocks to get to it, so hope you brought some shoes along.

[Lucas looks up at the speaker. He raises an eyebrow. Curious.]

Terrain doesn't bother me. I can just fly over it.

Lucky.

[He sprang off and lands in a kneel as he heads off, gesturing for him to follow]

I like it there better, the water's much clearer.

Oh? I didn't know location on an island of this size made much of a difference. Does it have to do with the currents around it?

[Someone's missing the point of the beach by being in a full dress, but she nods appreciatively anyway.]

There are...definitely quite a few people here.

[A big change from a forgotten tomb, that's for sure.]

Perhaps if we search, we can find somewhere quieter.

...Well. I don't want to spend too much time searching. Otherwise I won't have the time to enjoy the beach.

[He wasn't expecting a response from anybody nearby.]
