When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you.
If you have any setting questions, or want to do some reading before posting a thread, you can find the setting directory here! Happy tagging!THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 Refuge has opened its gates to the people of Union, Caldera and Citadel, in the most hospitable way they feel possible: A party. Some have come to explore the expansive underground city, but mostly, word has spread about how Refuge's brews are on point. They don't seem to discriminate on age, either.
#2 The city of Caldera is starting a major production project and they need workers. The forges are constantly going day and night and the pay's good, but it's hot, hard work that'll leave you tired and achy to say the least.
#3 The Summer Solstice festival has begun in Citadel. The tree is in full bloom, with flowers of every color dot its branches. This week-long celebration brings together the various tribes that call Citadel its home through music, dancing and, of course, fighting. There is a tournament set to begin, boasting some of the strongest Valkyries that Citadel has ever known among the combatants.
#4 The heat has really gotten to the people of Union, and as a result many have moved south for a weekend get-away in the Archipelago and the larger Island. The sand is warm and the water is too, but doesn't the beach seem a bit crowded for a once seemingly deserted area?

I know books on physics. Well, I know they exist. An' I know a book called "The Theoretical, Metaphysic..." er "Wossname". I don't recollect them being together. If they were it wouldn't be physics, would it? Physics are real. They wouldn't be physics if they weren't real.

[ she's not going to give him a lecture on theoretical physics and the semantics of physics concepts as "real" or not. that would most certainly not endear people to her. she's hardly enough of an expert to explain it to anyone else, anyway. she just wants to try and understand it herself. ]
Really, any section of books about physics is fine. I would have gone looking myself, but I'm new here, so I wasn't sure where to start.

[ Rincewind, in this case, is the bottom. He drinks from the dredges of discarded hopes and dreams. But that's for another day. For now, he points a long, finger as knobby as a twig, in a direction. ]
You'll want to go down that aisle. Can't miss it, really. You'll know you've gone too far if you hit "metaphosphates".

[ she goes along the way he pointed, and she's gone for a little while before she comes back, a small stack of books in her arms. this time, she looks much less enthusiastic about her question; she'd fidget with the thimble that takes the place of her missing pinky finger if her hands weren't full. ]
I... Does Union have any information about Gigas?

I've found that Union's grasp of geography is really disappointing. From my understanding, they were isolationists up to a few years ago. Oh sure, they've got their explorers and their rangers and their seekers or whatever they are, but the maps are vague and their grasp on other cultures is ... severely wanting.
[ He casts a dreary gaze down a different aisle. ]
They have a book. That's it, just one. It's not even proper size.

[ Rincewind turns and leads the way. Meanwhile, he's considering a thing. A vaguely generous thing, which is crazy because Rincewind isn't generally, well, generous. ]
If you don't mind my asking, why Gigas?
no subject
[ it's such a dreadful thing to say, given what little she's heard from the people of Union. she's not considered any different here, she knows; she was a prisoner, after all. but she was still born there, wasn't she? and... what must a person be to get locked away in such an awful place? ]
But I spent my whole life locked away there. In the end, I don't actually know a thing about it.

[ The other part sinks in. ]
All your life?

[ she balances her books in one arm and tucks a lock of hair behind her ear with her freed hand, avoiding eye contact. ]
I... got out of the city just recently. A man freed me from the tower where I've always lived, and after I had escaped Gigas, some good people from Union found me. They brought me back here, and, well... Here I am.
no subject
[ He squints at her. ] You're not a criminal, are you?
no subject
[ she shakes her head before he can answer the question. ] But no, I'm not. I don't see how I could be; I've been in that tower since I was a child.
no subject
[ He reaches out and pulls a small, indistinguishable book from the shelf. It looked dejected. ]
Anyway, here's your book. Sad little thing, innit?
no subject
[ the look she gives it is both disappointed and kind of pitying. well, Rincewind spoke quite a lot more than he otherwise has been when they were on the topic of foreign places, so maybe...? ]
Hmm. [ she scolds herself: oh, just ask, you silly girl. ] You aren't from Union, are you? Did they know more about Gigas in your city?
no subject
[ He glances down at the book again and comes to a decision. Rincewind pulls a small, handbound and crumpled mess of papers from the folds of his robe and presents it. ]
Here's some of what I know. It's not much, but it's more than Union can give at the moment. I'm afraid they suffer a chronic case of rose-tinted glassitis.
