TEST DRIVE MEME: JUNE + JULY EDITION

Welcome to bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are encouraged to use either first person or third person for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 Refuge has opened its gates to the people of Union, Caldera and Citadel, in the most hospitable way they feel possible: A party. Some have come to explore the expansive underground city, but mostly, word has spread about how Refuge's brews are on point. They don't seem to discriminate on age, either.

#2 The city of Caldera is starting a major production project and they need workers. The forges are constantly going day and night and the pay's good, but it's hot, hard work that'll leave you tired and achy to say the least.

#3 The Summer Solstice festival has begun in Citadel. The tree is in full bloom, with flowers of every color dot its branches. This week-long celebration brings together the various tribes that call Citadel its home through music, dancing and, of course, fighting. There is a tournament set to begin, boasting some of the strongest Valkyries that Citadel has ever known among the combatants.

#4 The heat has really gotten to the people of Union, and as a result many have moved south for a weekend get-away in the Archipelago and the larger Island. The sand is warm and the water is too, but doesn't the beach seem a bit crowded for a once seemingly deserted area?

((Originally from Union, left for Caldera about a year ago but got Gigasnapped and made into an Enhanced, has been in Caldera since he escaped. Abilities = Enhanced & Analyst, appearance here (minus the scars), also he has brain fuckery thanks to being Enhanced but it shouldn't be too outwardly obvious.

[It had been a stroke of luck, of sorts, that the call for workers had come when it did. Takeshi had been in Caldera for at least a couple of months already, but getting by had been difficult. He'd arrived with nothing but the ratty clothes on his back after his escape from Gigas. The owner of a small shop had been kind enough to take pity on him and give him a place to sleep in exchange for helping out. He was deeply grateful, but he knew he couldn't stay forever. He'd already broken more than he could make reasonable excuses for without revealing what he was, and there were days when his head was too much of a mess and he couldn't work at all, shutting himself in his room and refusing to come out.]

[But physical labor turned out to not only be a good use for his new abilities, it also served as a good distraction from his own mind. Even with his strength he was still worn out enough at the end of the day that he could sleep a little better. The fires felt hotter than they had when he was human, but that was fine. That was a distraction too.]

[So here he was, in Caldera doing hard physical work when he'd initially wanted to come for research. Whatever it took to get by without causing any incidents. Tonight he was heading back to the shop after a hard day's work while most of the others went to drink; he'd figured out early on that alcohol did nothing for him now. Soon he'd have enough to move out and pay back the owner for their kindness and all the damages he'd caused.]

[Going on vacation so soon after returning to Union didn't really appeal to Takeshi, but he had certain friend(s) who felt otherwise. So somehow he found himself on the beach... but fully dressed and wearing gloves that seem far from weather appropriate.]

[He'd been under the impression it wouldn't be this... crowded. Oh well. He could still try to relax. He makes due by sitting by himself on a towel a ways away from the water, occasionally people watching between flipping through a book on human biology.]

[Speaking of the Devil- I mean, one of those friends. Er- one of his Pokemon. Fuji the Skiddo comes up behind Hongo to butt his head into his back.]

Oi! Takeshi, what are you doing?

[And there's Hayato running up after him dressed in full beach attire. Er, Calderan beach attire. Which is to say he has no shirt on at all.]

[cyborghands]

[Oof. He turns to see who it was and- oh. He chuckles and lightly pets his head.]

Is Hayato not paying enough attention to you?

[Speaking of speaking of the devil. He gives him a questionable look, but doesn't say anything. Takeshi may have lived in Caldera for a while but you are still offending his Unionite sensibilities you hooligan.]

...Reading. What are you doing?

[He tilts his head at that look and-- oh right. He's from Union. Welp. Not that he had any plans of clothing himself just to keep from offending him. Sorry, Calderans gonna Caldera.]

[Fuji meanwhile just kind of makes a happy goat noise at him for pets. Thank you.]

Doing beach things. You know, because we're on a beach.

[Eyebrow raise.]

[Do you have a problem with reading on beaches sir.]

Does reading not count as a 'beach thing' to do?

[He keeps his hand on Fuji's head, at least for as long as he lets him.]

[expertonshutters]

[He makes a dramatic show of rolling his eyes.]

I guess. But you could do that anywhere.

As I recall, you're the one who wanted to go on this trip. I would have been fine staying home and reading there.

[His accusatory tone is mostly a humorous one, for all that it was true. He did appreciate being invited, even if he was reluctant to come for other reasons.]

What do you think I should be doing?

Fuji wants you to play tag. You could do that. There's also swimming in the ocean.

[Look. Oceans are really cool. There are none in Caldera.]

[cyborghands]

[It's true, oceans are pretty cool. He's been staring at it along with people watching. But it's also large and wet.]

If by tag you mean headbutting, I'll pass. And I don't know how to swim.

[expertonshutters]

[Obviously that means you should go running into it.]

Aw, tough luck, Fuji. Go see if Kodak wants to play.

[Fuji huffs and trots off to go head butt the poor unsuspecting Kricketune.]

You don't have to know. We can stay in the shallow water if you want.

[cyborghands]

[Good luck with that Fuji.]

[He raises a brow at him and sighs, though he does shut the book and stand up.]

I suppose that would be fine.

[expertonshutters]

[He grins, pleased that Hongo is humoring him.]

[He just wants to play in the water okay, just roll with it.]

Great! C'mon!

[Gonna drag you into the water.]

[cyborghands]

Oi-

[He can walk just fine without being dragged, thank you. But he doesn't tug away until they're near the edge of the water.]

Hold on a second.

[He bends over to roll up his pant legs. He's not planning to leave here in soaked clothes, okay.]

[expertonshutters]

[SIGH. Hayato lets him go so he can wait for him to roll up his pants.]

You should get a swimsuit.

[cyborghands]

[There it's done. He wades into the shallows. Huh, that does feel kind of nice.]

I don't need one if I don't plan on going swimming. And don't think you can make me wear one of yours.

[If you can call that a 'suit.']

[He puts his hands on his hips while he waits for Hongo to wade out.]

Ta-ke-shi~! [The whine is all the warning Takeshi gets, though, before Right suddenly plops down next to him with a pout. He, at least, is wearing a (union-style) swimsuit.] You shouldn't just be sitting here! We came here to have fun together. Remember?

[And there it was. He glances over just as Right drops down beside him.]

I came here because you insisted. Don't worry, I'm enjoying myself right here.

[If in a decidedly not vacation-like way.]

Super Heroes Beach Special~

[lunchleader]

Well, of course I insisted. You need to relax, after being away from home for nearly a year! Not studying your head off during the summer break you academics have. [He reaches to try and yank the book out of Hongo's hands.]

[cyborghands]

I am relaxing- Oi!

[a.k.a. Right succeeds in stealing his book away. He sighs and crosses his arms. Not that he was really annoyed; he did come here to spend time with his friends, reluctant or not.]

What did you want to do?

[lunchleader]

[Right's got that "I have an Idea in my head" grin on his face.] Lots of things, like play around in the shallows, build a couple of sand castles...ohh! And definitely try out all the good stuff to eat here!

[cyborghands]

[He suddenly has a feeling this isn't going to be relaxing at all.]

Okay, okay. One thing at a time, though.

[lunchleader]

[What are you talking about? Having fun is always relaxing, compared to boring ol' studying!]

Okay! We'll start by building a sand castle with the others, then.

[The others, of course, being several of Right's Pokemon that accompanied them on their vacation. One of them, a Togepi, is waddling her way up to them with a bucket and a little shovel inside. She looks up at them with hopeful eyes. So, we're gonna build one?] Toge?

[Of course. He gives the Togepi a smile, not that he can tell what she's saying.]
