TEST DRIVE MEME: AUGUST + SEPTEMBER EDITION

Welcome to bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are encouraged to use either first person or third person for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 With a sudden interest in the inner workings of Sanctuary, the mage city has decided to host a cultural festival. Taking place over an entire week, events include exciting magic duels, extravagant tea parties, and a "mouth watering" feast of delicacies from the middle and upper class. These include such things as a curious-looking sausage, an interesting-smelling dish made with Stunfisk, and a number of boiled foods! Delicious!

#2 Wingull and Pelipper have taken up residency in the port! Loud, obnoxious and somewhat destructive, they have been creating issues for Union fishermen, creating a shortage of seafood in the city. The Council have reached out to a few, ahem, adventurous types willing to chase them off. It's a messy job, but someone has to do it! Don't wear anything you want to wear again!

#3 In a show of good will, Caldera invites the citizens of Refuge to experience a self-proclaimed "true summer." Extending the invitation to the people of Union and Citadel, the food flows freely--as does the Refuge-brewed alcohol. Things are bound to get rowdy, but what is a good party without a bit of exercise and entertainment?

#4 The herds in Citadel are growing! Miltank, Tauros and Bouffalant herd sizes are at an all time high this year in part due to the assistance from other civilizations and the unusually warm spring. Farmers and herders around the area are looking for workers, and will pay in milk, meat and hides. This work is not for the faint of heart, however, and may prove to be a bit crappy difficult.

[Naoto looked up, eyes curious as she regarded the tawny-haired young man who had happened upon her in her thoughts.]

Maybe I was just enjoying the sight of the Wingulls in the breeze, [She said easily,] there's no crime in that, is there?

HAHA THAT wouldn't of lasted long though

Yeah there is! You can bird watch anywhere, it's a total crime not to be enjoying those crystal clear, warm soothing waves!

[Aka Naoto is by herself and this can't stand.]

Then, what if I told you that I left all of my gear in Union? I don't particularly want to get my clothes all wet today, either.

No problem! I've got an extra pair of swim trunks with me! They'll fit 'cha.

[Because he is clearly talking to another guy, right?]

[Yosuke can believe whatever he wants, but the look that Naoto gave the swimtrunks could only be described as 'unimpressed.']

I have ones that suit me better in my apartment. There's a few other issues I need to be prepared for before going for a swim at the beach.

[Like the heat. Between her fair complexion and her particular typing, he didn't necessarily want to expose that much of herself to the sun.

Suit you better? [That's confusing. He doesn't get why any other pair of swim trunks for a guy would be better or worse.] I guess, but now you're making going swimming a much bigger ordeal than it really is. Lotion, a towel and a swim suit should be it.

[Maybe this guy is just a party pooper.]

Perhaps..if this was a trip for pleasure.

[She sighed and, dropping all pretense at banter to regard him with a sharp eye.]

I'm actually looking for something. A lost item. Maybe you could help me find it?

Sure. Whaddya lose?

[His eyebrows raise. Hopefully it wouldn't take too long, but he'd help a bro out.]

An old spyglass, actually. [She looks up at him, all seriousness-- there was a glint in her eyes that was almost daring the young man travelling from Union to laugh.] It's an antique, and it's recently gone missing. All the clues I've found point to hear....but--

[She gestured at the expanse of the beach, the people bustling about and the wingulls trying to steal their meticulously packed lunches.]

This might be like searching for a stick in a forest.

[Dang, even he can see when he's getting the stink eye when it's being hidden as just a glint. He doesn't say anything, not at first...]

How come you had it on you out here? [Wait for it] Seems like sort of a bad spot to be carrying around an antique... [Here it comes]

I mean, I'd be checking the ladies out too with it. [He elbows Naoto lightly, in the typical bro fashion.] It is the perfect place to get a glimpse of the goods!

[There it is.]

[Naoto stared at him, her displeasure at his words undisguised.]

Not only is that disrespectful and utterly rude, that's a misdemeanor-- and it's punishable by law. Do I need to arrest you before you make yourself a menace?
