TEST DRIVE MEME: AUGUST + SEPTEMBER EDITION

Welcome to

bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are encouraged to use either first person or third person for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 With a sudden interest in the inner workings of Sanctuary, the mage city has decided to host a cultural festival. Taking place over an entire week, events include exciting magic duels, extravagant tea parties, and a "mouth watering" feast of delicacies from the middle and upper class. These include such things as a curious-looking sausage, an interesting-smelling dish made with Stunfisk, and a number of boiled foods! Delicious!

#2 Wingull and Pelipper have taken up residency in the port! Loud, obnoxious and somewhat destructive, they have been creating issues for Union fishermen, creating a shortage of seafood in the city. The Council have reached out to a few, ahem, adventurous types willing to chase them off. It's a messy job, but someone has to do it! Don't wear anything you want to wear again!

#3 In a show of good will, Caldera invites the citizens of Refuge to experience a self-proclaimed "true summer." Extending the invitation to the people of Union and Citadel, the food flows freely--as does the Refuge-brewed alcohol. Things are bound to get rowdy, but what is a good party without a bit of exercise and entertainment?

#4 The herds in Citadel are growing! Miltank, Tauros and Bouffalant herd sizes are at an all time high this year in part due to the assistance from other civilizations and the unusually warm spring. Farmers and herders around the area are looking for workers, and will pay in milk, meat and hides. This work is not for the faint of heart, however, and may prove to be a bit ~~crappy~~ difficult.

[Oh! Well, it wasn't like Mia didn't appreciate a nice set of clothes. And Sanctuary outfits were relatively new, and seemed pretty fashionable. Still, the way he said it...

Smiling vaguely, she nodded to the tall young man and waved a hand almost helplessly.]

Is there something wrong with my outfit, young man? It's not getting threadbare, is it?

[At the pretty woman's comment, Kanji's face turns a bright red. Best way to get customers, Tatsumi. Why not just insult them all?

Now he's gotta rush to clear up the misconception before she's really offended.]

Uh, no, I didn't mean it like that! We, uh, just got a lotta new stuff inside and you should come check it out while it's on sale! Yeah.

[Mia taps a well manicured nail against her cheek and smiles vaguely. He was new at this, clearly. It was a little cute, frankly, and she shakes her head.]

What sort of clothing do you specialize in? Are you a casual wear shop, or do you sell professional and formal attire as well?

[Not offended at all. Now screwing with you.]

[Back in Sanctuary, everyone knew about his family's skill with needle and thread. There had been no need to advertise. But in Union, the Tatsumis were just another family in the city. Hence his current predicament.]

We sell all kinds. Take custom orders for anything you might want, no matter how detailed. We can do alterations too, if you're lookin' for that as well.

[Kanji is immune to the fact that he might be being played. Shop talk is all-consuming it seems.]

Alterations, hmm?

[She looks down at her outfit and shakes her head now. Mia decides perhaps that she doesn't want to tease him that much, with a comment about how tight the clothes must seem. Did I gain weight she thinks, though, and smiles briefly at the thought of the youth freaking out.]

No, I think I'll just browse for now, young man. Perhaps you could show me your professional wear? I've been considering expanding my practice, and I could certainly use a few new outfits.

[A hand slips into her pocket and out comes a business card that she offers. It reads simply Mia Fey, Attorney at Law, and is emblazoned with a Litwick in one corner.]

Yeah, stuff off the rack is never gonna fit as well as something made specifically for you. That's where we come in.

[He doesn't have a clue that he's just left himself open for more teasing. He's too busy opening the shop's door as he accepts the woman's card.]

You're a lawyer, huh? What kinda law you practice? [In case he needs your services, you know.] You got a Litwick or is that just like a mascot or something?

[Mia hums lightly to herself, wondering whether or not to press that point. Talk of fitting and racks...oh he was either really clueless or a lot slicker than she was giving him credit for.]

Is that a fact? [Okay, lets make him blush] You seem a little eager to take my measurements, at least. Would you be the one tailoring my order?

[She'll get back to the lawyer business soon.]

Huh? Wh-

[Kanji's inarticulate reply is cut off suddenly as what she's implying catches up to his brain. He sniffs before a slow droplet of blood leaks from one of his nostrils and his cheeks begin to flush.]

Wh-why'd you ask somethin' like that?! My mom is the one in charge of crap like that!

Why ask anything? To see where it leads me, of course.

[That reaction. Hah! Priceless.]

As to your question, I'm a defense attorney. And I have a Litwick as both a partner and a mascot.

[He angrily wipes the blood from his face and turns away as he heads towards the inside of the shop. She was totally yanking his chain. Of course.

Why does everyone always do that?]

Great. So you're the person to go to if I hafta tangle with the cops. [Might not be too bad to know this woman if it comes down to it.] Litwicks are kinda cool. Still prefer my Pancham though.

Hopefully you won't ever require my services, but yes, I suppose so. If the Swords of the Savior arrest you, feel free to give me a call. [She flashes a professionally cool smile.] But a tailor and his Pancham can't cause too much trouble, can they?

[Yeah, let's not talk about that then.]

It's good to know someone to call onin case the worst happens. [What if you pop a button in court, Mia? What if?]

[What if? That's a secret weapon.]

Would I now? Whatever could you be up to? Surely not.

We ain't up to anything but trouble seems to follow us around for no good reason. Dunno why.

[Just because he's tall and doesn't throw around spells like it's going out of style, everyone wants to give him a hard time.]

We got some nice suit jackets over here. [Not sure if any of 'em will fit over her impressive bust, but here's to trying.] You got a specific style in mind? Got single- and double-breasted.

[Again with the absolute failure at catching his own words. She smiles, laughing brightly and pats him on the shoulder.]

Single-breasted might be a little awkward. Perhaps lets go with the double. And I'd prefer things in black over other colors. I assume that's no trouble.
