TEST DRIVE MEME: JUNE + JULY EDITION

Welcome to bravenewworld's test drive meme! This post is designed to help players test out their characters within the setting, as well as give them an opportunity to collect samples for their future application. The prompts below are all optional, and can be used to get a feel for the game, but we encourage players to get creative and use this post however best suits their needs. Players are welcome to use either prose or brackets for their threads.

When creating a thread, it is advised that players give their prospective thread partners a bit of information in the subject line, such as the characters name and canon, or a possible typing and Enlightened ability (if this is applicable). These are not required, but will make it easier for any prospective players to thread with you. While not required, we also encourage you to take a look at the most recent AU Planning post.

THIS CYCLE'S PROMPTS
#1 Summer means it's time for a vacation! You and your Pokémon have hit the beach only to discover that not only has everyone else had the exact same idea, there's a bullying Raichu and Snubbull wandering around stepping on people's sandcastles! Will you stand up to them or let the squabble pass you by?

#2 A Noctowl has delivered you a message inviting you to enroll in Sanctuary's "Spoinkwarts School of Magecraft". How will you respond? If you say yes, you'd better head there for your supplies....it's doubtful you're able to buy cauldrons and Swellow-feather quills in Union.

#3 Perhaps it's time to beat the heat by heading to Refuge. But you've ventured there as evening is falling, and that can only mean one things: Zubats. Zubats everywhere. All at once. Suddenly. There is no escape, there is no release. There is only Zubat, and this cave.

#4 Aggron from the northern mountains have discovered Glacier music and are trying it out for themselves! Unfortunately, the only parts they've mastered are the grunting, yelling, and whipping their heads (and tails) around violently. Enjoy the concert!

#5 The Verdant Forest is full of pollen this time of year! And it looks like this Petilil that won't stop following you is allergic to....itself. It's also giving off pollen. Everywhere. Seriously, even if you don't have allergies, you're in trouble.

[Genji lifts his head, turning to glance back at the Ivysaur and then watches the leaves shoot past to embed in the ground right beside his shuriken. He considers the throw for a moment before giving a good-natured laugh.]

That was very good. I can see that even my skills can be matched.

[He turns again when the Leafeon approaches him, looking at the Grass-type from beneath his hat. Though the Pokemon may be surprised to see the glowing green visor staring at her instead of a pair of eyes. As well as by the metal hand that's offered to her in greeting.]

And hello to you as well.

[ There's a grunt, before the Ivysaur looks away, nose tilted in the air. It's not like he was doing that for attention or anything baka.

Geb is given pause by the strange green light, her ears pricking up as she stares at the visor beneath the hat. Then, the odd digits, which she cautiously pads towards to snuffle at curiously. She is used to the scent of steel, and this reminds her strongly of that of the Doublade who is her human partner's most senior bondmate.

Only once she's assessed him does she look up again, then lift a paw to place it on his fingers. It's a little too small to fill his whole hand. ]

[Of course not, and so there is no need to dwell on it. In another place and time he might give the Ivysaur a bit of a challenge, and a chance to hone and pit his skills against another but... perhaps not in this place.

Genji stays still while Geb takes stock of him, and though his expression doesn't shift when she places a paw in his hand he closes his fingers lightly around it to shake gently. His hand is steel and cold but somehow human in its movements.]

It is good to meet the two of you. Have you come to enjoy the weather as well? You are free to join me, if you wish.

Leafeeoon.

[ She knows all about paw shakes, and she watches the metal paw curiously as he closes his fingers around it. She's never met a Person --at least, she assumes so, he smells weird even for a steel-type Enlightened-- quite like him before, but she's clearly pleased to be invited to join him.

She draws back her paw, then turns about, barking to summon Elhaz over. He, apparently, is having none of it, snorting in disgust and makes a point to wallow into the warmth of the sand.

Shaking her head, making hre light green leaf-ears dance, she sits down next to Genji and leeleeafs curiously at him. Where did you come from, metal-human? ]

[It seems the Ivysaur is less interested in joining him and his new friend. That's alright, some have their own way.

He draws his hand back when Gebo sits beside him and turns back to take in the sight and sound of the waves. He can no longer feel the wind, or smell the sea air but this is enough.

Gebo's inquiry gets his attention again and although he doesn't understand her language, the look on her face is enough to tell him of the question on her mind.]

You wonder what I am? I am a human, or at least, my soul remains human even inside of this machine body.

[He raises his hand, closing and opening his fingers for a moment.]

I was changed many years ago.

[ The Ivysaur is keeping an eye on you, Mister. Especially with his human partner approaching. She hasn't noticed anyone else on the beach as yet as she's picked up a bad habit from the younger Magelings in her acquaintance: reading while she walks.

Gebo, however, has full attention for Genji. She's smart, for an eeveelution, and forever inquisitive, so she keeps snuffling at him as he speaks, head canting left to right, then back again. She does not seem to doubt his soul, but it's clear she's never seen anything quite like him.

It's likely no one this side of Union has. And Union has seen some weird stuff. ]

..She's not bothering you, is she? [asked from behind, when Sophia finally looks up, and notices her pokémon friends aren't quite so alone]

[This side of Union or anywhere else, save for a small portion of Gigas. And that is likely for the best. Genji may have found his path and made peace with his form but it was a long road filled with many struggles. Others might not have done quite so well or might have adopted a less peaceful outlook.

He's aware of Sophia's approach long before she speaks up. He'd already been skilled at noticing when somebody was near and his enhancements only make his honed senses that much sharper. When she does make herself known, he turns her way.]

Not at all, she is good company. [Reaching out, he pats Gebo on her head.] You are her trainer, then?

[ There's a delighted noise, and a headbutt for the hand that pets her. There's a slight 'thunk' from the action, which doesn't seem to make her dizzy or dissuade her - instead, her head tips and ears spread to the side: someone would like head scritches, please.

That Gebo would be exerting herself to be Eevee-levels of charming is a good sign, however, and there's the faintest sigh of relief that her more recent friend isn't being rude to the stranger.

A very strange stranger, at that. There's the slightest shrug at his question. ]

Mmm.. I believe 'trainer' is the catch-all term for those who form bonds with Pokémon, but it's never quite sat right with me. She is my friend, as is Elhaz over here.

[If it's head scritches she wants then Genji will certainly oblige, taking special care to get behind her ears. Faintly, he can recall the feeling of fur and warmth beneath his fingers so different from the electronic sensors in his fingertips reporting the count of the thin bristles of hair, of the Leafeon's temperature.

Some time ago, it would have repulsed him but now he is able to find that sense of contentment again.]

Hmm... it is, perhaps, an... unfortunate term. [He nods slightly, pondering the simple change in implication. It does imply a sense of... mastery that no human has the right to over another, Pokemon or otherwise. After a moment's thought he shifts his gaze to Gebo again.] It is better to have a friend, at any rate.
